Haha it looks about like what I expected. The effects look like a mix of ok and oh-no-baby-what-is-you-doing. I like several of the actors here, and it's all but guaranteed to be quite silly and probably a fun enough afternoon viewing. I can dig.

"What do you mean?"
"He was born with it."
I MEAN COME ON, TRAILER/MOVIE. LET ME BREATHE A MOMENT HERE.

Literally came in here to laugh about that line.Quoting Wryan (view post)

It's pretty sad because the most recent revamp of the video games (starting with X) actually have a decent story and writing.Quoting Spun Lepton (view post)

We're not really complaining that MORTAL KOMBAT is ridiculous, are we?
The Sub-Zero stuff was cool. Could've done without Scorpion's "get over here" at the end, but it's basically required.

Needs more Johnny Cage. Otherwise, it looks really fun.

That's my entire problem. I WANT it to be ridiculous. But they seem to be wanting it to have some earnestly delivered plot.Quoting Skitch (view post)
Just give me 80 minutes of fights with insane gore. That's all I want from an MK movie.
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"
"Rick...it's a flamethrower."
At least they're going all in with the gore and fatalities. Haven't played a MK game in over a decade, but I def watch the fatalities on youtube
Same.

Ok good. Same.Quoting megladon8 (view post)
My issues with the new MK:
Who is this protagonist? They made him up for the movie. Why isn't it just Liu Kang, Johnny Cage or Sonya Blade?
Birthmark? WTF.
Trailer needs more Shang Tsung.
Mileena doesn't have fangs.
Things I did like about it:
Gore, obviously.
Goro looks pretty badass.
Don't know, guys. I'm probably the biggest MK fan on the site, so maybe take that into account. I still play MK11 almost daily.

Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion is inspired.
I'm just really worried this is going to lean more towards the MK: Annihilation side of "silly", rather than kung fu with horror gore kind of silly.

Imagine the Raid type of fights in MK form?
Exactly. That's what I want.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
I am expecting this will be 75% attempt at storytelling, 24.5% poorly photographed, dimly lit fight scenes, 0.5% cool gore.

The fights in the trailer (specifically Sub-Zero/Scorpion) look pretty dope, though. Loved SZ's waterbending moment.Quoting megladon8 (view post)

I never really had high expectations for it. From what rumors I've heard, though, they went all-in on the gore. They knew their audience.

Someone make sure trans didn't drive off a bridge.
Bonus: It's technically a comic book movieQuoting Dukefrukem (view post)
Sorry, does trans hate Fincher?
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"
"Rick...it's a flamethrower."
No he absolutely loves him.
I often forget people dig Fincher's pea-soup aesthetic ... but I'm confused why trans would drive off a bridge for it?
Doesn't like Fassbinder?
