This site and only one other site actually do the whole liking people's posts thing, although here it actually counts for something. I kind of like it although it could only work on message boards that are full of mostly civil people-which means RT is out :P

There's a relatively new guy at work with a really thick Scottish accent. Today at lunch, out of the blue, he asked me "Braden, have you ever like, crushed a man's skull with your bare hands?"

    "No," I replied, laughing, "why?"

"'Cause you're built like the fuckin side of a house."

It's honestly one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me.
The Scottish accent gives it just a bit more punch.

I keep thinking that my back is feeling better, but that is only because I am lying completely still. The second I move, it's like, Oh, right. Pain.

I thought it in the voice of drunk Billy Connolly, and it was hilarious.

Mara, in case you haven't done this yet, alternate between hot and cold on your back. When my back goes out, I use an electric heating pad and a bag of frozen peas.

Yes, this is the best. I have a heating pad and an ice pack, and after six hours or so yesterday my back had calmed down enough that I could sleep. It's feeling better today and I am keeping up the regimen at work.

    Also, ibuprofen.

Try naproxen if the ibuprofen doesn't cut it.

YES. Naproxen works soooo much better than ibuprofen for me.

I once wrenched my back so badly that I had to have my husband help me off the floor. No idea what caused it. I have a prescription for Soma, which came in very handy.

    Hope your back feels better.

I had Thai food for dinner and now I am walking better and even made it up the stairs okay. My roommate says it is because Thai food is magical.

I had back surgery in May, and my back still gets locked up and/or shoots pain through my lower body all the time. It's no fun at all, especially trying to play with my little girls or do exercise related activities, which are kind of a job requirement. Hope you feel better.

Back is feeling better. Thanks, guys. I'm walking pretty well and only feel stiff when I get up from sitting/lying and when I try to bend over. This morning I refilled my cat's food but then was having trouble getting the bowl from my hand to the floor (ended up kneeling down.) Meanwhile, my cat was losing her tiny kitty mind. It was kind of hilarious.

And this other guy I know is really starting to bug me. We've played in a band, and he keeps texting me on Saturdays to practice on Sundays, and then he never texts me back on Sunday until I text him later in the day, and he apologizes because something came up. I do NOT understand this. Why would you not just tell someone you have to cancel? It takes a single fucking minute.
This. Again. Frustrating. Was supposed to be here an hour ago.

Give him the Syd Barrett treatment. Find a replacement and don't bother to let him know.

People like that drive me nuts. It's too easy to send a text to excuse being such an inconsiderate a-hole.

Yeah - texts make flaking practically acceptable.

...which would potentially place his replacement in a bit of an awkward spot should El Flake-o actually show up some time to find the new guy taking his place.

I would just recommend a text, short, to the point, professional: "you're out. you've been replaced. we found a new guy we can rely on. if it makes you feel any better, i just saved a lot on car insurance."

Which is exactly what happened when Syd showed up for some post-Syd recording sessions.

Woke up in the middle of the night to something tickling my arm, sat up, saw a tiny shadow LEAP from my bed and scurry into a hole. A mouse was climbing on my bed while I slept. The solution my groggy, sleep-deprived brain came up with was to cover the hole with one of the glue traps I have hidden around my apartment. I'm sure I'll come to regret that decision when I try to remove it.

This new knowledge suggests that what I had disregarded as a hypnagogic hallucination was actually reality, and that wasn't the first time a mouse was climbing on me.

If your bed doesn't touch the wall, put the glue traps under each leg. That way they can't climb up.

Yiiikes. I would have trouble sleeping in those conditions. (Fear of being crawled upon.)

Mice don't like the smell of peppermint-- maybe you could spray some over your bed to keep them away.

Really! I just purchased some peppermint-scented handsoap.
