Gotta say that I'm thrilled that in the state Michelle Bachmann represents embarrasses in congress, the very state house in which she used to prosecute her crusade against GLBTQs today passed a bill legalizing same sex marriage.

As someone on facebook so eloquently put it: I bet Michelle's having a stroke, and her husband Marcus is having a chardonnay.

I had been shopping for a car as of late, as I'd had my fill of the Eclipse, partially because I overestimated how much I'd enjoy a convertible, and partially because the 'little' problems it had when I bought it suddenly didn't seem so little anymore.

I found a 2004 Altima at a local dealership with 137k miles on it, and they were selling it for $5500. With my horrible credit, and the number of miles on the car (not to mention its age), the loan would have been AT MOST for 2 years, making my payments crazy high, even with a trade in.

When I got there today, the Altima was gone, so the salesman worked with me. I flat out told him that all the numbers he was throwing at me were too high, but he explained that banks are more likely to take chances on people rebuilding their credit if the car itself has fewer miles on it, so the newer models were my best bet.

I was about to walk out when he was able to construct an insane deal for me, and I ended up getting the following car:

2011 Ford Focus, 40k miles. Manual transmission. Bluetooth, aux in, Antilock brake system, sirius radio...

With trade and down payment the final price was less than $12k, and they were able to convince a bank to take a chance with me so my payments are actually less than $300 a month.

I'm pretty stoked, to be honest. The dealership includes a 100,000 mile powertrain warranty on all cars they sell, at no additional charge. I am not used to having a well made car THIS new. I am feeling less stressed about my car situation already and with the massive dip in my food costs since the surgery, I can easily afford the payments.

Finally, I have a car that doesn't look or act like I rescued it from a kill shelter.

I pick up the car and sign the contract tomorrow morning.

I keep reading that post as "Who has two thumbs and got laid today?"

I guess I just expect good things for you.

    So sorry, man.

Shit, I'm sorry to hear that, Spun. Sending all the good vibes I have that this will be a positive thing in the long run, and something better will come along soon.

Thanks for the well-wishes, everybody. Biggest downside for you, of course, is that I'll probably be here much more often.

Etiquette question: I've had some people send me a direct message on Twitter saying "Thanks for following me." That's fine. But am I supposed to be sending that message when people follow me, too? Because I don't feel like it, but I don't want to be rude.

I have 1 twitter follower. I have no idea who said person is. I think I should try to get to know them, and try and figure out why they are following me.

I don't like how I still get just as nervous asking out girls now as I did when I was fourteen. Grow up, dammit!

    Yeah...I'm realizing this too.

Even after all the weight loss and my new-found confidence, I still can't approach women at all. I realized the other day that of the women I've dated in the past (seriously or casually), all but one were because they approached me. I just don't do well being the asker / approacher.

It scares the bejeezus out of me and I don't know why.

A fear of rejection that would utterly annihilate one's self-confidence sending you into a whirlwind of misery and binge-eating thereby undoing all your hard work. Or at least this rejection of ourselves is what we fear, but the reality is usually more just a slight irritation and a blow to the ego. This is particularly true if you don't know the girl that well and don't really have any vested interest in the date. It becomes harder once you really start liking someone. If you work at it you can even remove the ego issue though, just tell yourself well she didn't say yes this time but that doesn't necessarily mean no forever and always.

Anyone here into rope knots, paracord stuff?

I got super into ropes this weekend while learning how to Butterfly Coil a long rope, and have ordered a book on knots and paracord crafts, along with 5 100' paracords of different colors/patterns.
