I may actually be in NYC at the end of that week as well (July 25th and 26th). It would be for work, but I am sure I could find a few free hours. Not sure as of yet though. Most of my work travel isn't finalized until pretty close to the date of travel.

Yes, the play. I would assume that you've seen the actual book.

I know it's the hot new play to love to be shocked by, but I'm just really tired of Parker and Stone's whole schtick. So I'm actively ignoring the entire thing.

    Hey guys.

I'm out of the hospital and at my parents' house to start my recovery. The surgery went well and the weekend was quite boring, but in cases like that, its a good thing.

The staff was good, but I'm just glad to be home.

Sorry I didn't update you guys from within the hospital, but for some inexplicable reason, Match-Cut was blocked as a "hostile" site by the Hospital's security server.

I expect cabin fever to set in any day now.

Well, here's the entire situation: our kids will be with us for the whole trip. However, my little sister has been dying to go to New York, so we invited her along if she paid for her own meals and babysat the kids in the hotel room one night while Val and I went out for dinner and drinks. We are definitely going to see a play while we're there, but we are planning on taking the kids with us. We thought that, on the evening out without the kids, we could meet up with anyone from MC who was available for either dinner or a drink afterward. If not, and you don't mind our kids tagging along, lunch somewhere would work as well.

I never mind having kids around, and the tricky part of having dinner is that it makes it difficult to get home again without spending the night. There are a number of options: we can put a pin in it for right now.

Sounds great. We'd love to grab a bite to eat with you, but if it won't work, I totally understand.

I feel like, with the amount of people who tell me this, there has to be a way to turn Quint into an internet celebrity, and somehow profit from his need to disrupt our daily lives.
Create a Twitter account for him. Call it "Awesome Fat Cat." Or something cooler than that.

Its hard to meet up with people when you're stuck in Iowa. The only ones closest to me are the Minnesota folks.

Do people call musicals "plays" now? Is that a thing? I've always called a musical a musical and a play a play. Since they're different.

A quick google shows that the internet is opinionated on this. I guess I'm pretty easy-going; if it's a scripted piece being performed on a stage, it's a play. The lines between a musical, and an opera, and an operetta, etc, get a little murky for me. (For instance, a number of Shakespeare plays, which are plays by any reckoning, will have characters singing on stage.)

If I'm emphasizing "not a musical" I will usually say "a straight play."

And if I am emphasizing "musical", I will say "a gay play."

I will take any excuse I can get to be Dame Maggie Smith.

I do like the word "show," though. It's so fucking chipper.

I always thought of "play" as a more general term that encompassed stage musicals but probably not operas.

I've never had to emphasize "not a musical" by one word in my everyday life, so I guess I dodged a bullet there.

Even though "straight play" is the legitimate term, I've been side-eyed by people who think it may be a slur.
