K and I got a bit blotto and watched the first four Alien films, none of which she'd ever seen. She liked them, and I find it interesting that she found the alien creature so compelling an antagonist. We both appreciated the grounded feel of the series, the third film being the worst offender in its boasting zero sense of time or space. I was particularly taken this time by Weaver's performance. Has anybody else realized how amazing it is?

    Verdict: First film best, unanimous.

Now I think Popeye is on the table. Yes. Yes, it is Popeye.

    SHOCK.

I thought you were my friend in thinking Resurrection to be the best.

Oh, I still like that one quite a bit, particularly Weaver's performance. Her playing half-alien without being ridiculous is wow. But the thoroughness of Alien's production, the sheer streamlined perfection of it is too impressive. I love the freewheeling approach to dialogue, mumbling and talking over lines and making noises, almost Altman par.

Also, Winona Ryder was, hmm... well... she's no Joan Fontaine, let's say. Unconvincing isn't strong enough. Hardly a debilitating strike, but she was kinda nails-chalkboardy.

Lovely Christmas. Good food. Great family. Many nice gifts.

My favorite. This is a hand-carved nativity in ebony from Ghana.

    Wow, yes, that's really beautiful!
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"

    "Rick...it's a flamethrower."

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

    My booty:

    * Some nice warm shirts (no more taking out the trash topless!)
    * A nice bathrobe to wear to the bus stop with my second grader and to her parent-teacher conferences.
    * A 50$ iTunes card with which to complete my Justin Bieber backcatalog.
    * Some charming-looking film starring the guy who played Thor about a cabin in the woods. I'm gonna make some hot cider tonight and cuddle up with my wife and watch it. If it's anything like Dolly Parton's Smokey Mountain Christmas movies, I think we're going to be in for a real treat.

New sweet zip up Packers hoodie, new awesome zip up Chiefs hoodie, plenty of money, a gift certificate, and Butterfingers. Plus I went bowling up at my grandparents with the relatives, and while I failed to break a 100 I had fun (and enjoyed a tall glass of Blue Moon). So yeah it was a good day.
