Hey Sven, how's been the line cook thingy? Feeling comfortable with it, or are things still anxious? Sarah and I hope things are good!

It's still pretty stressful, but I think that's gonna be par for the course. The sous chef says to always keep in mind that my "ass is gonna get kicked." (as in, I'm gonna be busy, not he's going to inflict such disciplinary measures) I was waking up in a panic for a while there, as that place is relentlessly busy and the instruction I get is usually fast, heavily-accented, and full of jargon.

But I'm starting to get it. It's therapeutic work in a way that counts. Thanks for your concern! What has been coming of Sarah's interviews? Moving here any time soon?

Having worked in restaurants for the better part of my life, I can tell you that it will never become not stressful. That's one of the reasons why I love it.

Also restaurant dreams are the worst. I've "gotten over" them, but I've had plenty of them in my lifetime, as has every other restaurant employee.

Spilling hot coffee all over a customer's lap was my recurring nightmare.

Mine was being the only server on, and continually getting new tables while being stuck at one table because the customer kept asking questions/changing their order etc.. I've had that dream, or a version of that dream, probably near a thousand times in my life.

Who's the "they" that are calling you? It seems like your insurance company should be getting tough with the mechanics who seem to be (a) continually wrong and (b) making life supremely difficult for you. What does the insurance company have to gain from substantially increased cost?

"They" is the repair company that the insurance company contracts out to.

What does the insurance company have to gain? More of my money. My insurance may very well triple from this.

Insurance companies are a bunch of crooks.

But if they shell out more money than your car is worth, they're throwing away their own money! When I got hit back last October, my insurance company declared my car totalled because the repairs cost a few thousand dollars more than the blue book value. Your insurance will go up the same amount whether they pay for the repairs or for the totaled value of the car, so it only makes sense for the insurance company to pay the lower amount. It sounds to me like they're letting themselves and you get screwed by their own licensed repair shop, which is just plain stupid.

I've had variations of this dream as well. And while you're taking the order at the table that is taking forever, the hostess taps you on the shoulder and tells you that you have another table. Those dreams are terrible, I haven't had one in a long time.

I also have recurring dreams about not graduating highschool because there's still one class I never finished.

Glad to hear that you're finding the job rewarding! Those kinds of nightmares/panic attacks in the morning sound like the worst. I hope they fade as you get more comfortable.

Seattle appears to be around nil, unfortunately. Sarah's had four interviews this year, and we know that she's out of the running of two of them, including the Seattle one. We were super-bummed when we found that out; we'd really felt called to the area. But there's jobs in Tennesse and Oklahoma that she's still being considered for, and we think she's got 50/50 odds for the Oklahoma one. We should know about that one in the next week or so. Fingers crossed!

Your insurance might go up because of the accident and because you are a new driver (you just got your license, IIRC), but it won't go up more because of how much it costs to repair or replace your car. At least it shouldn't.

Even though I'm unemployed at the moment, and I really shouldn't... I am considering going to Budapest for a few days in two weeks. 30 EUR for flight, not a bad deal.

I want a bathhouse. And I miss not being in Belgium. It's quite fun not being in Belgium.

Dude, do it. The ability to just decide to up and travel somewhere is one of the things I miss the most, and I regret not having done it more when I was able to do so.

This. Sooooo much this. I love my kids, and wouldn't change anything in my life, but I often kick myself for not taking advantage of my youth and just setting off wherever I felt like going.

Budapest it is. I asked a friend to come with, but I hope he bails. For some reason I always enjoy traveling on my own a lot more.

I really want to go back to Southeast-Asia, but Europe will have to do for now.

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?
