Third disc. For the first time, I did bad on investigating. I missed two of the three questions, resulting in a "failure" on the case. Nonetheless, I still apprehended the person, and despite being told that I was going back to the desk job, I was on the next vice case.

At least I didn't have to chase another person, but still. A little repercussion or consequence would be nice.

If you play Brink, your info has been compromised as well.

We're going to release lots of Bethesda/ZeniMax data today - however we might not release their 200,000+ users as we love Call of Cthulhu.

Bethesda, we broke into your site over two months ago. We've had all of your Brink users for weeks. Please fix your junk, thanks! ^_^

Yeah, supposedly the game stears you into the right direction even when failing to get the info out of the suspect. The downside I guess that comes with LA Noire's sleuthing game concept. Perhaps you should simply be allowed to fail a case?

This week for rock band sees the releases of "Take On Me" by A-Ha, "Tubthumping" by Chumbawumba and "Lightning Crashes" by Live. No-one else cares, probably, but I needed to get my glee onto the web somehow. ritch:

In another scene, a woman sobs and asks for her father. You see, the women in the alien craft are being forcibly impregnated by the aliens, and during your journey, you hear a mixture of screams and sexual noises. After I accidentally blew up a few of these female victims in a firefight, Duke made a joke about abortion.

This is what passes for humor in the game. It's not racy, it's not funny, and it makes you feel dirty. Every time I put the controller down, I felt the need to rub my hands on my jeans as if the game were making me physically dirty. It's like watching your uncle tell racist jokes at Thanksgiving and praying someone has the guts to tell him to cut it out, but this time it's interactive—and you're the uncle.
Now I'll probably still buy it but I'm not exactly liking what I'm reading so far.

Played some more DC Online last night. Pretty fun, once you get past all those initial problems. I found the map ... it was staring me in the face the entire time. Durr.

    This game sounds horrid.

During one scene, after you blow up one of the alien pigs, Duke says, "Pork chop sandwiches." Now, I'm a fan of the Internet, so I know what he's referencing, but that's all this is: a reference. There's no joke here. It's like trying to sit through one of those awful parodies like Disaster Movie, where instead of telling a joke, the characters simply re-enact a scene from another movie.

Duke Nukem Forever even features "topical" humor that includes the ability to punch a Christian Bale-like character who is ranting about someone walking through his set. These jokes were stale years ago.

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’

I might pick up "Alice: Madness Returns".

I loved the original, and it comes with it!
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"

    "Rick...it's a flamethrower."

I thought Jeff Gerstmann made a pretty cool criticism of "Duke Nukem Forever".

He said that he doesn't like "Duke Nukem Forever" for the same reason that he doesn't like "Family Guy" - its attempts at humor are just lazy references.

At one point, a general says to Duke that it's "time to save America", and Duke responds by singing "America, Fuck Yeah!"

It seems to think that a reference is funny in and of itself, without taking into account any kind of context or grace with regards to how it uses that reference.

That's exactly what DN3D was like.

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

That was also a long, long time ago.

Games have changed and grown a lot since then.

Plus, my experience with revisiting "Duke Nukem 3D" was that I enjoyed it mostly on a nostalgic level.

Anything that can even remotely remind someone of Family Guy is enough to keep me far away from that thing. FG is one of the worst things ever made.

I think the change in atmosphere from previous Duke games makes sense when you realize that the people who are making Duke Nukem Forever and the people who are buying Duke Nukem Forever are the same exact people who bought and played the first games, almost a decade and a half later. DNF is quite literally a mid-life crisis.

It's been fourteen years since the last time Duke did anything. He can't run as fast or as far as he used to. He can't carry as many guns as he used to. He can't take a bullet as well as he used to. The frat-boy sensibility about women from the previous games has darkened to a sense of fear and no small resentment (the pregnancy motif in the Alien level is important here- regretting having children, Duke?) The game's willingness to make fun of its protagonist even as it supports him is completely gone, because its desperate clawing after virility cannot tolerate that.

For a game sold as a comedy, it takes the fight to preserve the masculinity and youth of its main character incredibly seriously, not realizing that the fight is already lost. When a vehicle breaks down on Duke Nukem, he responds "Aw, and it got such good gas mileage." That is not a thing Schwarzenegger or Van Damme or Bruce Campbell would say in the films Duke Nukem is supposed to be parodying. That is a thing your dad says when the Volvo is beyond repair.

Duke Nukem Forever is a game about an aging sexually insecure man, made by an aging sexually insecure man, sold to an audience of aging sexually insecure men, which perfectly captures their anxieties. Duke Nukem Forever is art.

Whoever wrote that is clearly missing the point. An obvious one too. When Duke runs out of gas he is driving a fucking monster truck. That's the joke. Of course taken out of context it sounds stupid... Is that review from gamefaqs?

This is a stunningly good point. I hadn't thought of that. It's a bunch of 30-40 somethings trying to recreate their own frame of mind when they were teenagers or college students.

Yeah - that has kind of been the running commentary about the game's most recent development.

It makes sense since it's coming from Randy Pitchford. He was an original employee at Apogee/3D Realms.
