Nice pick. This and "Silva & Grimes" are my favorites off the new album.

Love it. I've been listening to the Pitchfork 500 through just to hear some random music (and to find cool new stuff) and "Pacific State" is one of my favorites so far. Definitely need to check more of their stuff out. Not sure which album to start with though.

Yeah - 808 State is awesome. Some of the only original acid house/rave music to have aged well.

I'd just check out their first 2 or 3 major releases:

Have you heard Shout Out Outt Out Out? They're kind like Holy F*ck, but more hipstery.

I have a big soft spot in my heart for any album that sounds like it was played entirely on toy instruments.

    Another awesome find, Davis.

As to how I find this stuff....

I spend a lot of time on Bandcamp and just searching netlabels. On Bandcamp, I'll click a tag like 'minimal' or 'ambient' or whatever, and just start exploring the different bands. I have a list of about 30 netlabels I monitor as well.

I'm glad I finally got around to this: it's worth a few listens.

    Nono - No Crying

Acoustic-based, shoegazer stuff. So pretty. Reminds me of later-period Flying Saucer Attack, or Alt-Ctrl-Sleep. Definitely worth a listen. Streams for free, or you can purchase.

I'm always surprised by how overlooked the Beach Boys stuff from the late '60s and early '70s is. Friends, 20/20, Sunflower, and Surf's Up are all amazing albums. This period proved to be one marked by mature craftsmanship and a more serious tone.
