The whole album its off of - Glee - is brilliant. In my top 100. It's smart, sarcastic, sonically interesting, funky, and just all around a great '90s pop-album. Totally of its time - it is a relic - but I think it still plays well today.Quoting Glass Co. (view post)
I've heard their second album, and it's about 1/2 good. Never heard their 3rd. It's pretty hard to find.
Drinking in LA is just a brilliant song. Bran Van was poking fun at the electronic and deejay cultures, while still utilizing their techniques, while also making some hilarious social commentary on the climate of So. Cal. filmsters. I was living there when this song came out, and its genius instantly hit me; I couldn't even count how many people told me they were filmmakers, and yet they didn't have a think to show!
Feelin' kind a groovey, workin' on a movie...
YEAH RIGHT!
But there is also a sadness to the song, or at least some genuine emotions of not doing what you really want to be doing. It strikes a perfect balance of being genuine, cynical, and sarcastic.
