    Why does "Margaret" become "Peg"?
My sister is named Margaret but we call her Meg, and for most of her life, people assumed her name was Megan.

Sometimes I call her Peggy to piss her off.

Unusual nickname constructions I really like:

    "Ned" for Edward.
    "Nell" for Eleanor.

    I guess I like "N" names. I don't know why...

Uncommon but not baffling nickname constructions I like:

    "Xander" for Alexander
    "Topher" for Christopher
    "Beth" for Elizabeth
    ...and the milk's in me.

Mel Gibson's wife of 28 years (and mother of his 7 kids) just filed for divorce.

    They married without a prenup.

This might be the most expensive celebrity divorce ever.

I think it will be tough to top Juanita Jordan (Michael's ex), who ended up with $250 million, but it will be big.

Mel has an estimated worth of $900 million, and they live in California, which is a 50/50 state.

I just saw a car on the freeway surround by like 8 cops, and they all their pistols or shotguns drawn, aimed at the driver.

Are there parody lyrics to the song "Love Shack," but instead called "Lovecraft"?

I'd expect such a parody to suck, but it should totally exist.

I've frequently thought something similar about Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA".

I've often thought someone should adapt Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard to the post-Civil War South.

I have some contempt for Zac Efron, mostly because High School Musical is so ubiquitous, but I think his monologue on SNL is pretty funny, and on-the-nose.

    Thanks, tweens!

As much as I like Tiger Woods, my favorite golfer of all time is Ernie Els. Followed by the Golden Bear, Jack Nicholas. And even though I'd place Tiger above him as an overall favorite, I still like Lefty better. Its a shame that his career hasn't been much better.

Unfortunately because of work yesterday, I missed the final round of the Masters for the first time in 4-5 years. I was bummed.

Amazon is quite fond of doing that. I just received a dvd from them today in a box which could easily have fit 50 dvds in.

    Why does "Richard" become "Dick"?

    Why does "Margaret" become "Peg"?
Why does Stephanie become "Roxie"? I have two friends who have this nickname and I'm trying to figure that out.

Did you get a box filled with those little air baggies and the DVD squished tightly in one corner?

This happens when I order from Amazon.com, but their Canadian site seems to choose more appropriate packaging.

Then again, it's a trade-off, because the Canadian site has half the selection, and when things go out-of-stock they never re-stock them.

Their was one little strip of those air baggies but at least a good 6 inches thick of empty space. The box was pretty caved in because of all the empty space.

The DVD was OK though, I hope?

I have had a couple of times when books have arrived with covers bent/ripped because of this shoddy packaging.

Here's a tip - if you order multiple items and one of them is damaged, call customer service and tell them that item was missing. They'll send you another, no questions asked.

    I've done this numerous times.

The whole skit pointing out how stupid High School Musical is was pretty good, too, especially when he points out the typical Disneyfied school system where "being yourself" is the primary lesson.

"I found out that I had a terrible education! I learned nothing in my four years here."
"That's not true! I learned that it doesn't matter if you want to sing and dance, as long as you stay true to yourself. I can be a dancer AND a jock!"
