Last year I was walking from my workplace to my bus stop -- not a short walk. The walk is down a suburban street, outlined by a woodsy area running behind a number of the houses. Occasionally there are raccoons.

One night, somebody must've left some food or tasty garbage in their yard, because there was a whole family of raccoons there, gathered around something. There were at least seven of them there. They were about 20 feet away from the sidewalk as I walked by. And ... they all stared at me with their glowing eyes as I went by.

    Creeped me the fuck out.

    Raccoons are assholes. Discuss.
This is true. They're destructive, aggressive assholes too. Those are the worst kind of asshole.

    It's still there!

I think it's scared to death of its suburban surroundings.

That's Nick in a nutshell alright.
Yeah, but they recommend crappy Daniel Auteil French farces like The Closet, My Best Friend, and The Valet. Yuck.

My sister, bless her, is signing escrow papers for a new house seven days before she's due to give birth.

Think about that for a second.

We're hoping that she [the baby] will be happy where she is and we can move immediately into the house. If not...I'll rest up a couple weeks and then we'll move. The surprise is what makes all of this so much fun! :P
Sure, because a couple weeks after childbirth, there's nothing you feel like doing so much as lifting boxes!

Can't she hire movers to assist?

I just moved on Monday--not houses, just apartments--and I must be a total weirdo, because there's not much I enjoy more than moving...particularly the unpacking (redesigning with my kitschy knick-knacks!).

Even the early stages of the process, mainly looking at apartments, delights me. There's something about inhabiting someone else's living space, if only for a moment, and picturing your life there. Perhaps it seems so literary (in an imaginative narrative sense) to explore a stranger's life-as-interpreted-through-their-space, just before you visualize your own creation of the area.

The only downside to the move is that I moved from an area I was rather unfamiliar with before I lived there, to a neighborhood which I already know extremely well (with good reason, as it's likely my favorite neighborhood in Manhattan).

We signed three weeks before Zach was born. I had a lot of help moving in, and for the most part the entire house was set and ready to go by the time he was born.

That makes me cautiously optimistic. If anything, I hope we can lock La Soeur and Le Bebe (in or out of utero) in a quiet room while the rest of us do the work.

And, Nick, I don't really like to move. I'm a nester. I like my space.

I love my space, but my "nester" status usually expires within a year (I'm referring to the space itself, not the city). And that says so much about my personality...

Also, please use French randomly within sentences more often, Natalie. It doesn't sound pretentious when you use it casually, and it helps me brush up on my rapidly deteriorating memory of the vocabulary.

Casual French is about all I have left, and we use it in shorthand around the house (especially my mother, sister, brother-in-law, and I.) I use it more heavily around my father, who is the actual Frenchman in the mix, but I don't actually talk to him that often.

Well, you'd better do something before you end up like this.
