There's been a lot of talk of Gomes going back to PSV Eindhoven. With the move for Friedel, I'd say that just about seals the deal.Quoting ThePlashyBubbler (view post)

Is Friedel still world class? He's been around a while.Quoting Kurosawa Fan (view post)
He was fantastic in every Villa match I saw. Definitely an improvement over Gomes. It's not like we just nabbed Neuer or anything, but it's an upgrade.
A half-blind Captain Hook would be an upgrade over Gomes.Quoting Kurosawa Fan (view post)

Depends on which day you catch him. Against AC Milan he was brilliant. He'd have matches where he saved Spurs, literally, from poor losses. But for every one of those matches, there was one to pair with it in which he let in soft goals or gave up penalties. He was maddening to root for, and if he leaves, I won't be too sorry.Quoting transmogrifier (view post)
Simply CRAZY couple of minutes at Wembley. Switzerland scores twice, only to concede a penalty a minute later. 1:2 so far.
I was hoping that Tottenham would land Thomas Sørensen from Stoke. He's way to good to be a bench warmer. Brad Friedel's definitely better than Gomes, and more mentally stable too.

Friedel is 40 and his best days are CLEARLY behind him. It's a very, very short-term signing from 'arry. He's better than Gormless Gomes, but surely Spurs could have done better. There are quite a few young talented keepers in France that would have been very gettable.
Well, there is quite a bit of time between now and September 1st.Quoting Spaceman Spiff (view post)
Couldn't find USA/Panama on any channel. So I'm settling with Telemundo and will just listen to music.
That's crap that it isn't on at least ESPN2...
it was on fox soccer, i think they have the rights to the gold cup games
It's lame that they're only showing the U.S. matches. I had to turn to Univision to watch Mexico/Honduras. I think FSC chose to air Chelsea/Wolverhampton from last season instead. :|Quoting Acapelli (view post)
Ah. Don't get that channel.Quoting Acapelli (view post)
Saw the goal though. Shortly after i fell asleep.
Fantastic, fast-paced Gold Cup Final right now. Everyone should be watching.
Love watching Dos Santos play for the national team. You'd think Harry'd be able to utilize him sometime up front for Spurs. Beats the too-oft-used strategy of "boot it up to Crouchy."
Speaking of which, K-Fan/Fezzik, you been following all the Modric drama? He's been my favorite player the last couple of seasons, so I'm glad it at least seems that he's staying put.
The times I've seen Dos Santos play with Spurs, he's been totally out of his element. He certainly didn't look good against Young Boys. I agree that the "boot it up to Crouchy" method is tiresome, but I'm not sure Dos Santos' style translates to England.Quoting ThePlashyBubbler (view post)
As for Modric, I'm not entirely sold that he's staying put. I hope he does, as I think he's pretty close to irreplaceable. What I'd love to see is one of these £40-50 million rumors for Bale come to fruition. Not that I don't love Bale, but he's not worth that kind of money, and that sort of sale would allow Spurs to grab two or three very high caliber players on the market this summer.
So is anyone watching this US/Brazil Women's game? Crazy.
U.S./Algeria was a great game for the men's side. Otherwise, I might agree. The shame is both games were marred by awful officiating.Quoting D_Davis (view post)
Raepino's cross was a work of art. I'm glad the US came out on top at the end...there were some close calls in that one.Quoting D_Davis (view post)
Fantastic match.
Is soccer the sport that probably has the least amount of dropoff as far as what women athletes can do compared to the men?
Not saying a women's team can beat a men's team. I just mean that in b-ball, no women can dunk. In baseball, no woman can hit with wooden bats, throw 100 MPH, etc.
Team sport? Because women marathoners are within 15 minutes of the men.
Maybe volleyball?
