Duke, here is the reason why the call against the Pats became a point of emphasis.

Sorry, but you're wrong. The show actually highly regarded journalists. And I'm not just saying that because Bob Ryan is a contributor. We're talking about Roger Ebert level regarded in their industry. I'd imagine you need to broaden your scope of sports journalism.Quoting Kurosawa Fan (view post)
And that's fine, but it still doesn't address my point. But I'm fine with this.Quoting Kurosawa Fan (view post)
If those guys are what amounts to sports journalism in this country (Bob Ryan excluded) it's no wonder ESPN is completely unwatchable beyond live sporting events. Maybe I should stop blaming the network and hold those "journalists" more accountable.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
Well you said it would make you feel better if the Jets notified officials before the game. I thought it would feel even better for you if you knew other teams had complained to the league, and so officials had been instructed to watch for it.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
Around the Horn is beyond awful. Not necessarily because of the journalists though... how can they be expected to be eloquent in 15 seconds while some douche sits there awarding "points?" It is all about showing how much you can throw at the screen and how many stats you can rattle off. So, you're right that them appearing on the show undermines them as journalists, but I suppose some notariety is better than none.
The Sports Reporters is alright (it used to be better).

How do you guys feel about PTI? (another show I enjoy and watch on a daily basis)
This might be the best GIF ever.
Or this one
It's tolerable when the two hosts feel like conversing rather than shouting. Haven't watched it in probably over a year, though. Outside of 30 for 30 docs and live sports events (and occasionally, Sportscenter), I've cut out ESPN completely.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
Just spent a couple days in Indy. Was able to only catch the last quarter or so with a bunch of drunken coworkers. And then we half watched the abomination last night while draining a company approved keg of beer, followed up by more beer.

I used to like PTI and ATH. Now I don't watch either one.
Won in my money league by only a few points thanks to Eli Manning sucking it up-my poor opponent was stuck playing him. I really want that league to stop with the two QB bullshit.

The gamble of eating up a bench spot for Harvin seems like it might pay off. I can't imagine he won't be back Week 9 at home vs. the shoddy Bucs, just in time for the ramp up to the playoffs.

Harvin stash may pay off. I've also just rostered Shane Vereen since he'll likely be back and featured within a couple weeks.
Only at 4-3 though so I need to start racking up wins.
Jason Campbell will start for the Browns this sunday. Thank god.
Same here. My guys just aren't getting TD's. Yards OK, but this isn't a PPR league, so I need the TD's.Quoting shaun (view post)

Jason Campbell is still around?
I like PTI/Around the Horn. PTI is better because they can focus in a little, although I question if Kornheiser watches sports sometimes, and doesn't just do a little pre-reading beforehand.
They are "Ebert-level" in sports journalism, but think of what a movie version of ATH would be like... Travers/Maltin/Turan/Edelstein.
It's hard enough to get a coherent thought from the local journalists who follow just one team. The national talking-heads who cover every sport have no shot. I'll watch the shows sometimes just to get a feel for the "national pulse," but I don't really expect insightful commentary or accurate analysis. There's nothing you can get from those journalists that's better than what you get from the elite game commentators. I mean, try comparing Kornheiser or Wilbon's knowledge of the game to Michaels, Mayock or even Colinsworth. It's two different planets.

Okay....
Kaepernick v Jacksonville
Dalton v Jets
Smith v Browns
Who do I start?
Kaep without hesitation.
He hasn't been taking my fantasy team by storm...
He's playing Jacksonville.Quoting Skitch (view post)
If you had Christina Ponder playing against Jacksonville, you start Ponder.

He did good, but I should've played Dalton.Quoting Scar (view post)
