Lions Fire Mike Martz; 49ers Reportedly Ready to Make Him Offensive Coordinator

Good for the Lions. Seriously though, when is the league finally going to realize that the guy is a complete waste and a detriment to a team, not only for his terrible play calling, but also his giant ego? He had success as a coordinator with the Rams, but I'd place most of that success with Dick Vermeil and Marshall Faulk. The guy took over a Rams team that had just won the Super Bowl and made it worse every season. As the Lions coordinator he was ridiculous, falling into the same traps as before by completely abandoning a pretty solid running game for no good reason whatsoever.

Meanwhile in "duh" news, Adrian Peterson wins Offensive Rookie of the Year.

The Lions started off great on offense. I'm not quite sure how it collapsed in the second half of the season as they seemed to depend on the run or pass right from the get-go. They would also stick to it, even if it wasn't working.

And the 49ers with ANOTHER offensive coordinator? I sure feel bad for those QBs.

I can understand why the Lions cut bait with Martz, but he would be welcome in San Fran. Alex Smith is looking like a failure at the moment, although he had some good games working with Norv Turner. Right now the offense is worse than stagnant, atrocious maybe. Hopefully they give Martz a shot and give Smith another year to develop before going to the draft/FA market.

Jets will most likely be firing Bob Sutton as DC and picking up the recently dispatched Rob Ryan from Oakland to take over. A good move. Ryan and Mangini are good friends from their time as defensive assistants under Belichick and both are committed to the 3-4 defense, so at least they'll be on the same page.

He'd have to go undefeated for the next 3.5 years to get his tenure back to .500. It's really quite impressive how much loyalty William Clay Ford has towards him.

    Bengals fire D. Coord./LB Coach

It's a step in a direction... I like the move because our defense has only improved none in the past 3 years, so if it only means a new face to the same old crap, at least it's a new face. Can't wait to see who's new face it is.

Right direction, but it ain't enough. Like in B-More, only the opposite, Lewis is a defensive guru supposedly, and his team can't play defense. I may be wrong and maybe a new D Coord. will make a big difference, but I think a new system altogether might be what is needed.

As long as we're bragging: Back to Back championships in the RT Keeper League.

It's not about loyalty. Ford couldn't care less whether his team is successful. Instead of investing money in his team, when ticket sales started to fall he built a new stadium with taxpayer money. That has kept the stadium packed thus far. I don't think he has any particular attachment to Millen, he just doesn't care much. His son has come forward and said some remarks that his dad has lost any passion and that he would like to take over now and make some huge changes. I'm not sure Lions fans should have any more faith in Jr., but it can't get much worse.

    Congrats on the win krazed.

Bill Belichick wins AP Coach of the Year.

Can't complain. I would've liked to see Mike McCarthy win, but that's only because I'm a Packers fan. But Belichick deserves it for the 16-0, which makes sense.

It would've been ridiculous had he not won it, controversy and all.

I'm changing my pick from New York to Tampa Bay. I can't convince myself that Eli is capable of winning a playoff game on the road.

Words of Wisdom: don't bet against the Seahawks at home. Matt Hasselbeck is 22-3 in Qwest Field over the past three seasons.
