I've always wanted to watch this show, but never got around to it.

You must. *insists* David Tennant's incarnation of the Doctor is my ideal.

Is this a new series? I thought it was rather old. If it's a newer version, I haven't seen either. Should I watch one over the other?

I have seen many episodes of the original series. The new series, which had Christopher Eccleston as the doctor for the first season, I haven't seen much of. I have seen a couple with Tennant and he is quite good. Though, if I'm not mistaken, isn't it time for another regeneration?

The old one ran for the 60s-80s. It was resurrected a couple of years ago.
You should definately watch the David Tennant episodes. I'm sure your family would love them.

Ditto. It seems like the sort of thing I should/would be into, but I've just never really tried it.

If anyone cares about BTS drama, exec producer Caroline Skinner has quit, effective immediately, following a supposed row with Steven Moffat. That's the 3rd exec producer to quit the show since Moffat took over.

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’

I've grown to love Matt Smith, so this is sad news to me indeed. He's slowly become the role so well, and I'm used to him playing the part. I guess Tom Baker will forever be the only actor to even embody the role longer than anyone else...

Devastating news, but I read this rumor months ago, so I've had time to prepare. I didn't call myself a Doctor Who fan until Matt Smith. I hope I can continue calling myself a fan after he's gone.

But... The whole point of Doctor Who is to scare the shit out of children. It's a time honored thing.

If I didn't have to live with his nightmares and middle of the night barge-ins, I might consider it. I think it's over his head anyway. The accents, the quick dialogue, and the techno-babble is too much for him. The eleven-year-old was riveted. The eight-year-old checked out after one episode.

I started watching the old version of Doctor Who when I was in elementary school, I believe. Because around that time PBS also aired Red Dwarf episodes too on Friday nights, and then they would air only Doctor Who on Saturday's. Sci-Fi Fridays/Saturdays used to be the norm until they got the new current version of Doctor Who. Now they only air those episodes on Saturday's and nothing sci-fi on Friday nights.

One of my earliest scary memories is of the classic Tom Baker episode "The Ark in Space"

I didn't know it was Doctor Who, I had no idea what it was about, I just remember being horrified by the slimy crawling larvae absorbing people. I didn't know they were green, because we had a black and white TV, that's how long ago that was. I only figured out what it was that I was watching years and years later, because I remembered there being a disappearing telephone box.

That episode is fantastic. And yes the green larvae people probably scared kids back then. The earliest episodes I watched were only Tom Baker ones, although later on they showed episodes from other Doctors. I don't think I've seen a full episode featuring McCoy yet.

I may have to start watching this show now. It'll be weird hearing Capaldi talk for more than 10 seconds without cussing.
