Yay
Nay
This movie's reputation as a legendary stinker should come with a warning sign - while true enough, that doesn't mean it's funny in any of the "wrong" ways. Like Venom, this new Sony villain feature plays like something that could have been made in the early 00s but, unlike that Tom Hardy comedy, this one is dreary, reiterative and relies way too much on undercooked CGI to sell its big moments. The overall feeling it caused on me? Exhaustion, I just wanted it to be over. Too bad for Matt Smith who seems to be having fun playing the antagonist.
I didn't hate it, but it was utterly forgettable.
It's blah, definitely not a good movie yet not the train wreck I was hoping for, because that would have been more fun. You can't tell what is happening in the final act of the movie (way too dark, bad idea), plus Matt Smith was clearly stealing the flick and hamming it up in a sad attempt to give some life to the proceedings. Poor guy, he should fire his agent.
