    From Letterboxd:

Whether it’s Bollywood or Tollywood, a lot goes into making a film in the Indian film industry, from the elaborate musical numbers to a myriad of storytelling motifs and spectacular stunt choreography. All those elements and more helped to form RRR, an epic period drama set in 1920s India, where warrior Komaram Bheem and his Gond tribe join forces with Raju on a quest to rescue his young sister Malli from the British Governor, unaware that Raju has his own secrets and intentions to employ for personal gain. This fantastical epic does lose some steam post-intermission, but the film picks back up tremendously for its indelible climax. The script beautifully ties in elements from the Hindu pantheon and blends several genre tropes together to seamlessly create a film that looks, sounds and feels epic in scale, stakes, and emotion from the first frame to the last. Add amazing VFX, intense performances, wild action sequences, an earth-shaking audio mix and incredible music, and you have a captivating monument of a movie that amounts to a wondrous celebration of Indian culture, brotherhood and history.

Take my word on this one, guys. If you like Bollywood/Tollywood cinema, go see this movie as soon as you can.

Lazlo!!! Have any thoughts on this? Saw it again last weekend and need to gush about it more with someone else who’s witnessed the greatness of this movie.

Feels weird (and indulgent) to have a slight complaint that a climax in which arrows can both light forest fire and explode buildings seems like a *comedown* from its mid-film action sequence. But it's from how that mid-film animal-assisted raid will most likely be the action sequence to beat this year, spectacular in its outrageous choreography and design. The more-is-more spectacle approach here also means that the necessary "break-up" stretch on the way to the finish line can feel its slack, but overall this film is maximalist blockbuster action filmmaking at full imaginative power. 8/10
    Midnight Run (1988) - 9
    The Smiling Lieutenant (1931) - 8.5
    The Adventures of Robinhood (1938) - 8

    Shin Godzilla (2016) - 7.5

One of the most badass action movies I have ever seen. It's glorious, epic, and has some of the best use of slow motion, ever. I should probably watch more Bollywood movies.
