Only my second movie with Krieps following all-timer Phantom Thread, and I'm happy to find she's great again. It wasn't a one-and-done. (Apparently I've also seen her in Hanna, but I have no recollection of her whatsoever.)
I could've forgiven the movie for turning into a Nicholas Sparks story for the second half if only it'd wrapped up in a coherent manner, but alas it is a nay from me.
Maybe since I'm indifferent to Tim Roth as an actor, I find the film involving only when it starts to move from the main couple into the film-within-the-film story. Mainly because of Mia Wasikowska's vulnerable, moving performance, but she and Anders Danielsen Lie also have great chemistry together as well. Gets deflating here and there whenever it returns to the main story after, but the way two stories "bleed" into each other during the later stretch does finish the film on a beguiling note. 7/10
