Oh, theres carnage.
Oh, theres carnage.
As a defender of the first film, I was looking forward to this. I was on board for the first two acts (at least as much as I was the first go round), but by the third act, I swear my 7 and 9 year old teamed up to produce the dialogue. Forget all the CGI and story and all that, you PAID someone for THAT dialogue? Was there a writers strike I missed? Its MST3K crazy bad. Hilarious. Should you watch it? YES! Because I can't believe this third act happened! This movie is bananas.
edit: I put a poll on here but apparently it didn't take. Mod correct if possible

Well not you, no, lol. Otoh...even you might find some amusement at it. At least it's not a tame safe MCU like Black Widow. Even if it's a fail, it's at least something to stare at in cockeyed smile in bewilderment. Who thought this...who thought this was the way??Quoting transmogrifier (view post)

I'd choose to see this over Black Widow or Shang Chi. Thankfully I'm not forced to see any of them.
First film is a subpar origin story that is intermittently supercharged by Tom Hardy's deliciously weird energy. This time the sequel hones in on that vibe with everyone on the same page; Michelle Williams has a more reduced screentime here but gets to give a funner performance (her convenience store's bickering/flirting with Venom alone is better than anything she's given to do previously), and even the indifferently developed villain side at least joins in on the hamminess rather than being generic like the original. The whole film is mostly just a concentrated dose (in and out at 90 minutes) of the previous one's best parts -- Hardy playing buddy roommate comedy against himself -- and getting to a fun variations on them. Venom going to a rave! 6/10
