A noirish, black and white animated character study of a quiet train dispatcher, Alois Nebel is as low-key as it's protagonist, a man has turned him inward after a childhood trauma and into a bit of an outcast. Most of the main plot follows him having a quiet life until a visit to Prague forces him to spend some time with a picturesque drunkard and a lonely woman with which he eventually develops a quiet romance.
While the film isn't perfect (there's also has a subplot dealing with a mysterious mute carrying an old photograph connected to Nebel's past which doesn't quite mesh with the main story), it has a very ominous and melancholic atmosphere augmented by it's horoscopes animation. There's a palpable feeling of dread in the air that makes the film a bit more interesting than it's slow pace and quiet protagonist would imply. Solid film overall.
