    Nolan's Next Film - About WWII A-Bomb?

Christopher Nolan Bombshell: Director Talking To Multiple Studios On Film He’ll Direct About J. Robert Oppenheimer & Development Of The A-Bomb In WWII

The biggest news being the multiple studio thing- i guess he's pretty pissed at WB still over the whole streaming thing.

This subject matter couldn't interest me less.
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"

    "Rick...it's a flamethrower."

If he has to go make these movies in between giving me Inceptions and Interstellars, I'll allow it.

    Sure, agreed, but...

I'm really hoping Tenet was just a fluke and not indicative of him beginning a downward / self indulgent spiral. His comments regarding Tenet, its release, and its reception paint a picture of someone who has bought into their own hype.

And now with him courting other studios because of the Tenet release, it shows he still does not see the flaws in his own work. "Everyone else is the problem" kind of thing.

Granted, he's had just one flat-out bad movie in a 20+ year career. I just hope he learns from it.

Maybe he needs to make two war drama movies this time to get back on track lol

I looked it up. Complete fiction and unrelated. But now I want to see it. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091472/

"Fat Man and Little Boy," with Paul Newman, 1989. Directed by Roland Joffe. Dwight Schultz ("The A-Team," "Star Trek: The Next Generation") played Oppenheimer.

Surprises me that this is relatively untapped territory then.

Unpopular opinion, probably, but scientists make for lousy subjects in the movies.

First, you need to explain the actual science so the drooliest baboon in the audience can understand it. This isn't easy, and can actually undermine what you're trying to do. (Because the complexity of the ideas is what makes the material interesting in the first place.)

Next, you need to dramatically visualize scenes about dudes standing around a chalkboard and ... thinking.

This is nearly impossible and why we end up with pure cringe like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FSKTndbwVo

Yes, but if this movie is accurate it's more about engineering. The science was all done before Oppenheimer entered the scene. This movie sounds dull - a better subject would be a more general film that covers the entire subject of the Atomic Bomb instead of the last piece that Oppenheimer was a part of. It would be much more interesting to see how we got from point A to point Z, instead of just looking at point Z.

There's an opera, Doctor Atomic (2005), which isn't good, even with John Adams' music and Gerald Finley's singing.

    Just because...
Ash Is Purest White (Jia Zhangke, 2018) mild
Au bonheur des dames (Julian Duvivier, 1930) warm
Kansas City (Robert Altman, 1996) mild

The last book I read was...
Seize the Day by Saul Bellow

I guess that sounds pretty straightforward. Is there a catch? Maybe after Tenet, Nolan figured straightforward is good.

You know what did it really well?

    HBO's Chernobyl.

Looks like Universal is doing it.

And hot damn, Nolan is being demanding about this one.

He's pulling a Shyamalan, God help him, and throwing away a decade of professional relationships over a movie that just wasn't worth it.

Whatever Nolan's faults are as a filmmaker, being boring is not one of them.

he can def be tedious (the prestige?)

but the problem is beyond nolan's --- or anyone's --- abilities.

a genius sitting in a room and thinking big thoughts looks exactly the same as an idiot sitting in a room smelling their own farts.

ie, there's no good way to visually dramatize a guy working at a drafting table. you can't build a scene around that as an action.
