Fansville: College Football Thread Part Whatever

The old thread has some good memories but it's time for a new one. I root for all major Iows schools unless they play each other, then it's just mostly ISU since my dad and sister went there. I'm well aware that the season has officially started already which is crazy but hey colleges gotta make the money. We are also supposed to get a new college football game which makes me happy and is long overdue.

Also ESPN still does college football pick em's although I only play the non-confidence one. Picks for this week:

*Wisconsin over PSU-Coin flip game here, also so many Big Ten teams are playing this week which is weird for opening week/weekend.

*OU Sooners over Tulane-I would be shocked if the Sooners lose this one. They won't.

*Bama over Miami-The U isn't good enough to beat the Crimson Tide although Bama is breaking in a new QB. Hmm.

*Hawkeyes over Indiana-Iowa is usually pretty tough at home although the Hooisers looked really good last season and could be a dark horse Big Ten contender.

*WV over Maryland-I like the Mountaineers defense in this one. Also they gotta break that losing road streak sometime.

*Texas over Louisiana-Hmm this is a trap game for the Longhorns. Gotta go with the home team though.

*Houston over Texas Tech-My upset pick of the weekend. Neither team looked good last season.

*Clemson over Georgia-Clemson's new QB D.J. Uiagalelei isn't that new-he looked great last season while Lawrence was out with covid. Plus having the home crowd should help since there are people in the stands again for this season.

*LSU Tigers over UCLA-LSU has to bounce back from last season, right? This is a tough road test for them.

*BYU over Arizona-The Wildcats suck yet they do face a BYU team that lost their stud QB in Zach Wilson to the NFL. Still I can't shake the feeling the losing streak will continue.

Last week: 5-5 woof. That did not go well. On to this week!

*OSU over Oregon-Should be another shootout for the Buckeyes unless they tighten up on defense. I'll be able to watch this one before I go to work.

*Volunteers over Pitt-I think even the Vols can pull this one out. Good non-conference early season game here.

*Florida over South Florida-Hey a battle of Florida schools. The Gators' ground game is riding high after last week so it might be a long day for the Bulls.

*Texas A&M over Colorado-Ah an old school match up of two former Big 12 rivals. The Aggies may have too much talent for the Buffaloes to match.

*Iowa over ISU-The Hawks blew away Indiana while the Cyclones struggled with UNI. If ISU fails to find any rhythm on offense again it's gonna be a long game. Sigh...

*Texas over Arkansas-The Longhorns shouldn't have too much trouble although you never know.

*MSU Bulldogs over NC State-Tough match up to call here. I went with the home team but the Wolfpack are no pushover.

*Michigan over Washington-The Huskies looked pretty awful last week and they face a Wolverines squad that crushed their opponent last week. This could get ugly.

*Utah over BYU-The Utes run the famous Holy War rivalry and I think that streak will continue.

*USC over Stanford-The Cardinal really are facing an 0-2 hole as they play a stacked USC team with playoff aspirations. They didn't play last year due to covid so the rivalry is back on.

Last week: 5-5 woof. That did not go well. On to this week!

*ISU over Iowa-The Squawks blew away Indiana while the Cyclones appeared to struggle with UNI, but it was just a ruse, and Iowa isnt going to find out until too late because they're poopieheads. The Cyclones are the best and bac0n is my favorite matchcut poster. Sigh.

I only got to see the fourth quarter, but yeah. What are you gonna do? They were straight up outplayed.

I didn't like that call on targeting there...though I don't know all the details on that rule...he definitely led with his head to the other guys spine. That could've been real bad. Not that I thought it would effect the outcome of the game at all.

Hmm I didn't see the game unfortunately. I had to work today so I missed out on the college football experience.

ISU sucks. I expect them to still win 6 games this year. I'm an idiot. Go Cyclones. The only fun thing is that ISU lives in Iowa fans' heads rent free which makes no sense to me considering Iowa football goes to bowl games every season without fail.

I forgot to post picks before today since I was out late last night and Thursday I spent watching horror movies. 5-5 last week, 10-10 overall yey mediocrity.

    1. Sooners over Cornhuskers
    2. Cincy over Indy
    3. Costal Carolina over Buffalo
    4. V-Tech over WV (I like that matchup)
    5. The U over MSU Spartans (lots of U's!)
    6. Bama over Florida (hoping I jinxed the Tide. Tide by 20)
    7. Utah over San Diego State
    8. Penn State over Auburn
    9. OSU Cowboys over BSU Broncos (yeehaw!)
    10. Sun Devils over BYU (tasty late night matchup)

Went to my first NCAA game last night. Maybe I'm a bad sportsball fan...as much as I love football, I've been to one Browns game and this was my first OSU game. Tickets are always more than I want to spend. Anyway, had seats from friends season passes.

Again I've only been to these events a couple times, but I'm always astounded at the architecture. The massiveness of these constructs blows my mind. There are people, hanging out watching a game, like, four stories up...one slight misstep away from tumbling to their death.

I'm in SEC country. The school to the left of me got blown out 62-0 by Georgia yesterday, while the school to the right of me has the most annoying fanbase in all of sports.

I just root for my alma mater (Southern Illinois) even if they're an FCS school.

Besides, the NCAA is going to get reformed into the SECAA before too long.

That's sounds cool. I usually go to one ISU game every year but I missed out on last season due to covid and this year doesn't look too promising.

I forgot to post picks for last week. I went 6-4 two weeks ago, then 7-3 last weekend. So I'm turning things around. Maybe.

Vanderbilt is on the left. Tennessee is the one with the most annoying fanbase in all of sports.

Vandy had their one or two good seasons before their coach dipped off to Penn State. Tennessee hasn't been relevant since the early 2000s.

This season has been pretty wild imo. I think Spinal or someone here was an Oregon State fan so he would be pretty happy that they're ranked.

We're playing a game at work where you guess the score of OSU games. I now have 2 wins (closest to prediction spread) so I'm hoping to get some sweet OSU gear by end of season.

    My secret weapon, you ask?

I can't recall the last time I made a spreadsheet. I should do one for all the movies I've seen over the years.
