Almost Lea Seydoux film festival; four films in, with three in competition (French Dispatch, France, The Story of My Wife).

Looking forward most to Thai Joe, Sean Baker, and Farhadi.

And LOL at the way Thierry Frémaux made it seem like the announcement is finished, then added Sean Penn's film at the last minute. Potential The Last Face redux incoming.

Absolutely, plus a new Wes Anderson is always worth watching. Lots to look forward to.

Predictions on the Palme? Spike Lee heading the jury makes me think a) something macro, unsubtle, and ambitious like Leos Carax (not sure if his is in competition tho) or Paul Verhoeven and/or b) a POC or woman filmmaker. I feel like Wes Anderson might be too "white guy" (for lack of a better term) for Spike Lee. I'm thinking Thai Joe, Mia Hansen Love, and Audiard might have a good chance.
Ratings on a 1-10 scale for your pleasure:

    Top Gun: Maverick - 8
    Top Gun - 7
    McCabe & Mrs. Miller - 8
Crimes of the Future - 8
    Videodrome - 9
    Valley Girl - 8
    Summer of '42 - 7
In the Line of Fire - 8
    Passenger 57 - 7
Everything Everywhere All at Once - 6

It's Cannes so whatever the longest, least disciplined film in competition is, that's what I'd bet on (see The Tree of Life, Blue Is the Warmest Colour, Winter Sleep, The Square).
    Just because...
The Fabelmans (Steven Spielberg, 2022) mild
Petite maman (Céline Sciamma, 2021) mild
The Banshees of Inisherin (Martin McDonagh, 2022) mild

The last book I read was...
The Complete Short Stories by Mark Twain

How did I miss Julia Ducournau? Raw was awesome, so Titane is now at the top of my most anticipated from the fest along with Red Rocket and A Hero.

A few hours away from awards announcement, but insides tea seems to point towards Titane winning the big prize too.

Sounds like Spike Lee had a Moonlight moment and accidentally announced the big winner right away, misunderstanding someone asking him to announce the first prize/first place. Language misunderstanding. It was [].

Very odd though. I mean, he's been to so many awards shows. Guess I'd have to see the clip to understand the context.

Sounds like the Sean Penn is the only stinker, but heavy hitters Carax, Verhoeven, and Wes Anderson had a more muted response than usual. I'm curious now about Titane. I liked Raw but it didn't blow me away. I figured Spike would go for the Farhadi, but he settled for second place.

Dudes not young anymore. He's in his 60s. Could be having an AARP moment.

That, and I think the combination of nervousness and all the language cacophony had him go along fast with his misunderstanding of the host.
