    "The second-season premiere, as seen on BET, is almost an entirely different episode than what was aired on HBO. Instead of opening with Detective Jimmy McNulty finding a dead body floating in the port, the episode opens with drug dealer Bodie driving to Philadelphia. For some reason, the show’s original opening, a pivotal moment in the second season, was cut out.

    Even more pivotal is a scene involving Major Valchek and his son-in-law Roland Prezbylewski discussing Valchek’s donation of a stained-glass window to a local church. The fact that Sobotka donates a larger window incites Valchek’s jealousy, which causes him to demand that the department investigate Sobotka for corruption. The entire second season wouldn’t happen without this scene, yet it’s missing from the episode."

    How the hell do they keep McNulty involved in the season without that body? Ludicrous. But if you're watching it on BET, you're not really seeing it anyway, edits or not.

    I have a feeling that BET's second season is six episodes.

    I wonder if Prez was edited out of Season 4... And what the hell is with all those news reporters in Season 5?

    Nah, the Prez plot in Season 4 dealt with inner city kids, so I don't think they'll cut it out. They'd more likely cut out Carcetti's campaign story.

    The reason for it is less sinister, though still racially motivated. During the first season they aired episodes in full, which because HBO has no commercials, they had to air each episode in 90 minute blocks. They had to cut it down to one hour in the second season but keep all the commercials, so they had to cut out about 20 minutes out of each episode. Seeing how it's obvious who BET's demographics are, the choice of what to cut out was easy.

    Each is successively better until the final season, which dips a bit but is still essential viewing. The fourth season is probably the best 13 episodes of any television show I've ever seen.

    It was OnDemand for a while after it was finished. Not sure why they yanked it so soon. Probably to try to boost DVD sales and rentals when the time comes.
