Seems like the stripped-down production allows speeches to go on for a while. Fine by me I guess. I prefer acting clips to these individualized "thank you"s from the presenters, though. Also, the Vinterbergs are a very handsome couple.

PYW's screenplay win is kind of expected (Trial a 2nd choice, which if won would threaten to have its Best Pic chance pretty high), The Father's one is a nice surprise though. Given the late surge from people watching and loving it right around the time of voting, wonder now if Hopkins will upset...

Shin Godzilla (2016) - 7.5
Since Soderbergh has apparently made an awards-wide decision of not cutting speeches off, I'm setting the over/under on Viola Davis' speech at 4min 30sec. That being said, the size of Carey Mulligan's dress screams confidence.
Kaluuya talking about his parents having sex leading to him and then his mom's and sister's reactions lmao

Um, what? Best Director presented now?
EDIT: Congrats to Chloe Zhao. Good speech. And a Swankie cameo!

Yeah that is weird that they presented director this early. Glad that Zhao won.

Someone that understands
And sees through the master plan
But everybody's gone
And I've been here for too long
To face this on my own
Well, I guess this is growing up
Heh, yeah. Cool that he won though.Quoting Peng (view post)

With apologies to those special humans who fully appreciate the editing/mixing dichotomy... combining into a simple "Best Sound" category was a good move by the Academy. A very deserving win from Sound of Metal. Also, Riz Ahmed is charming.
I can't tell if Questlove's post-speech record scratching/airhorns are tacky or hilarious or both. Waiting for a speech to end on a super sentimental note to know for sure.
Huh. I really thought Nomadland would win cinematography. Mank is a fine choice though, I guess.
Miranda just asked me a question and I'm obligated to respond: first movie seen in a theater? Mine is Jurassic Park. Yours?

Mine is also Jurassic Park.
I'm not watching this at all, though. Watching MOVIESH. Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, Pieces of a Woman (holy shit) and now wondering whether to pop in One Night in Miami or calm down.
Hell fuckin yeah! See it on the biggest screen possible.

McDormand over Davis caused this show to be notably shorter.
