Philip LacĂ´te takes no time introducing us to this world and what's at stake. The result is a storyteller at risk of losing his life in one world and an equally interesting look at his storyworld, which in one way or another forms our hero and the world he's in (although when it breaks to full fantasy, the special effects aren't quite where they needed to be).

A prison story that stays away from its typical cliches, an interesting world, and always the fear that anything could happen at any time.

    This is quite the surprise.

It felt a little short, but what it does with 90ish minutes, I was definitely there with Roman to hear his story as he faced whatever the hell could happen in the prison. A little expected, but mostly new territory- coulda gone a little more wacky with the storytelling, however, the entire film is surprisingly grounded in its vision of this one night. Definitely recommended.
