Anyone else see the guy on YouTube who said in his review that the "point" of the film is that the girls are hot, and you're supposed to feel conflicted about finding them hot?
The FBI should check that guy's computer.
No but I knew there was a ton of controversy about this.
My feed is full of Trumpers cancelling NF accounts about this. No idea what this is about, but plenty of those people were cool with honey booboo and child beauty pageants. Not sure if relevant, I'm busy prepping for horrorthon and watching people torn to shreds.
I haven't read that much of it, but I wouldn't be surprised if it overlaps a lot with QAnon believers.

This was good. I can understand the outrage. Good double bill with The Fits.

What really boggles my mind is that Danica McKellar cancelled her Netflix account in a video on Twitter out of protest over this movie. Her case specifically doesn't compute because she has a PHD IN MATHEMATICS AND CO-AUTHORED HER OWN FUCKING THEOREM.
It's amazing that someone so intelligent can be so ignorant.

All this controversy is making me want to watch this.
Well it surely can't be worse than A Serbian Film, right?Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
Wait, what?Quoting Ivan Drago (view post)
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"
"Rick...it's a flamethrower."
Just because McKellar has a PhD doesn't mean she is media literate or has good taste.Quoting Ivan Drago (view post)
She might suffer from "engineers disease": The delusion because you're ubercompetent in your chosen field, you're automatically an expert on everything else. (ahem)
You're also buying into the fallacy that smart and successful people are automatically subject matter experts on a wide variety of topics, which they almost never are. Cf: The public perception of Bill Gates, Elon Musk, William Gibson, and Stephen King.
Then there's the film itself. Whatever the intention, this level of subversion and satire is almost impossible to do in a feature film unless you make it glaringly obvious and inoffensive toward the intended audience (eg: "Borat").
Otherwise, you risk glamorizing the very thing you seek to criticize --- think of how many people misread Rorsarch, Gordon Gecko, Henry Hill, Tyler Durden, and Jordan Belefort, etc, as heroes, to be endlessly talked about and admired and emulated.
"The motion picture is like journalism in that, more than any of the other arts, it confers celebrity. Not just on people --- on acts, and objects, and places, and ways of life. The camera brings a kind of stardom to them all. I therefore doubt that film can ever argue effectively against its own material: that a genuine antiwar film, say, can be made on the basis of even the ugliest battle scenes ... No matter what filmmakers intend, film always argues yes." -- Renata Adler (emphasis mine)
I've seem maybe 5 to 10 seconds of this film. The clips, out of context, made me too uncomfortable. I can't blame anyone for having an adverse reaction to it. The pro critics on twitter turned it into a culture war thing, but I think in doing that they revealed their own lack of imagination.
True. . .I've always had the thought that media literacy would be the most common trait everyone has on both sides of the camera. Then again, this isn't the only time that's been invalidated: Scott Neustadter, who's one of my favorite writers in Hollywood, tweeted a snarky comment about how much he was disliking I'm thinking of ending things. You would think pros would at least know what they're getting into with a Charlie Kaufman film, you know? Guess my expectations are too high.Quoting Irish (view post)

I thought it was kind of bad. The main girl's behavior becomes so outrageous in such a short time. It could have been believable if it had taken a few years, but she goes from being a timid, shy girl to a total slut (and overall bad person) in a matter of days.

Same here, but since it's on Netflix I probably won't get around to it anytime soon. I use Tubi, Shudder and Hulu more these days.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
Blog!
And it's happened once again
I'll turn to a friend
Someone that understands
And sees through the master plan
But everybody's gone
And I've been here for too long
To face this on my own
Well, I guess this is growing up
