That's wild. I'm very surprised.

If it’s set in the same universe as Phoenix’s Joker, then it would make sense for there to be random people in clown makeup without necessarily meaning Joker is part of the story.

I think I've watched this trailer like five times now. So awesomely cut and scored. Really happy they already had this much footage to share but bummed that it's over a year away, and even more cautious because they didn't complete filming before.. all of this. Still, totally excited and definitely left wanting more. Love the gothic and morose tone. Pattinson is still feels like such an unexpectedly great choice for this.
I thought it was pretty clear as the trailer went on that "duct tape guy" is Riddler. The voice sounds modulated but it's clearly Paul Dano, who was confirmed as Riddler from the get-go. Though I will admit at first I did think it was possible we were seeing a more home-made, goggle-y Batsuit akin to Peter Parker's in Homecoming, but then I realized that this guy was up to no good and that Bruce Wayne always had money.
What revealed this to me was clearly recognizing Farrell's voice when he goes "This guy's crazy!" in the car towards the end. I'm like, "Wait. That sounded like.. But that means... "Quoting megladon8 (view post)
I don't think any connections really track due to the make-up skull gang filming Batman with a modern smartphone, and Phillips' Joker being set in the 1970's. I know this movie is already committed to big prosthetic transformations, but I'm not betting on Joaquin Phoenix appearing as an elderly Joker in this world.Quoting DavidSeven (view post)
Last 11 things I really enjoyed:
Speed Racer (Wachowski/Wachowski, 2008)
Safe (Haynes, 1995)
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (Parker, 1999)
Beastie Boys Story (Jonze, 2020)
Bad Trip (Sakurai, 2020)
What's Up Doc? (Bogdanovich, 1972)
Diva (Beineix, 1981)
Delicatessen (Caro/Jeunet, 1991)
The Hunger (Scott, 1983)
Pineapple Express (Green, 2008)
Chungking Express (Wong, 1994)
I was referring more to the fact that the 70s Joker (Phoenix) would exist as an iconic figure in the present-day of The Batman, and therefore, it wouldn’t be strange for modern gangs to be paying homage to him, like a Che Guevara figure. The ending of Joker suggests pretty strongly this will happen.Quoting Henry Gale (view post)
Edit: not to say that’s what’s happening here, as the gang’s makeup isn’t overtly clownish in the Joker sense.

As much as I loved Nolan's "realistic" take on the world and mythos, I'd really love to see some of the more out there and even supernatural stuff here.
I really want a live action Clayface. Or a better take in Mr. Freeze.
I enjoyed the theory that the bomb and subsequent radiation fallout at the end of Rises would've been the catalyst for the more extra characters like Killer Croc, Poison Ivy, etc.Quoting megladon8 (view post)
Man Bat would be a lot of fun.Quoting Skitch (view post)
Get someone like Leigh Whannell to write and direct.
That'd be a great move.Quoting megladon8 (view post)
There's so much opportunity with this approach, even if you went with JGL doing Nightwing since Bruce is retired.
But I am excited to see this Detective approach. From what I can see, it doesn't look like there's a city-wide potential for destruction in this, which is nice.
I've been promised a detective Batman since the 90s. I'll believe it when I see it.Quoting Ezee E (view post)
Same.Quoting Skitch (view post)
Back in '07/'08 Nolan said TDK would be more of a Batman detective story. And, I mean, I guess technically it is more than Begins...but that's not saying much.
I've been a diehard Batman fan since toddler-hood. Comics, movies, cartoons, shows, merch. My all-time favorite interpretation of the character and world is The Animated Series.
That show (and the associated movies and series') is just...*chef kiss*
Same. SAME.Quoting megladon8 (view post)
Nolan flirted with detective stuff, but it always feels more out of necessity and not purpose. An annoyance. A hurdle to get over to get to the punching and screaming.
True dat, homes.
And I don't mean it as a sleight against Nolan's movies. They're great, and I thought they handled that particular interpretation of Batman really well.
I just happen to be more into the Sherlock Holmes type of Batman stuff, than the punchy kicky.

Totally LOL'd.
And yeah, I didn't find Bale's Batman exuded intelligence. He's a smart dude for sure, but much of his thinking is done for him by others. He's a smart missile and Fox, Alfred and (to a lesser extent) Gordon point him where to go beat things up.
Yeah but HURRY UP, theres things to punch and yell at!Quoting Wryan (view post)
