Surface-level documentary that never quite enthralls.

MLK/FBI is at its best when focusing on the conflict of MLK and J. Edgar Hoover. This leads to the MLK Tapes, which won't be released until 2027 and contain what viewers are probably looking for. It touches on what was done, but barely shares what was discovered, and for a title called MLK/FBI, it kind of feels swept under the rug.

Instead, we get a more 60's overview of MLK containing mostly archival footage of a changing culture. Many of these same moments that you could easily see in interviews from today, which is interesting in itself. One of MLK's speechwriters shares that while he can't control what's in the tapes, the legacy of MLK will live on.
