Watched this yesterday. Pretty fun pastime. Loved the fatalities.

Can you believe it wasn't until this movie that I realized that the entire cast of the original Mortal Kombat is lifted from Big Trouble in Little China?

    Johnny Cage - Jack Burton
    Sonya Blade - Kim Cattrall
Liu Kang - Jack's chinese buddy
Shang Tsung - David Lo Pan
Raiden, Scorpion and Sub-Zero - The 3 Masters

It's not perfect and leaves out Kano but it's there if you want to see it.

It was okay. As Grouchy said, the fights and fatalities are the best part. That and Johnny Cage was always funny when he appeared (Joel McHale absolutely nailed him). Unfortunately the movie is too short and trying to juggle both Scorpion's story and having the Shang Tsung tournament make both stories watered down and the stakes oddly feel low. And, sans Scorpion and Goro, none of the characters that are, y'know, bad guys feel as a threat because they don't have enough screentime to bpfeel like one unless you have played the games before. Like, for example you have Reptile and Baraka there, and just like that they're dispatched as if it was nothing.

I mean, if the movie had been longer, more focused or had less charactersm it would've been really good, instead settkes of being dumb fun.

This juggles a lot of subplots to the point where the story gets unfocused and they're all wrapped up in a rushed, anticlimactic finish, while the gimmick of seeing bones break when fatalities are struck gets repetitive after a point. That said, it does a good job of setting up all the interesting worlds in the MK universe, the voice cast is good, the animation is gorgeous and the film tonally evokes the spirit and energy of its source material. I had fun and am open to seeing more animated films in this franchise, but MK diehards will love it more.

I've always preferred the theory that Mortal Kombat is a remake of Enter the Dragon.
