Wearing masks is very similar to the shopping cart litmus test.
Wearing masks is very similar to the shopping cart litmus test.
Not a single mask on the folks behind Trump. Closest is the POC in the lower right hand corner with it on his chin.
This should not be politicized, but it is.
And it flat out disgusts me.
“What we are dealing with here is a perfect engine, er... an eating machine. It's really a miracle of evolution. All this machine does is swim and eat and make little sharks and that's all.”
It feeds into his personal "left-wing experts bad" narrative. It really does not get any more complicated than that.Quoting Irish (view post)

Went to the Denver Zoo today. They made you get tickets online and enter at a designated time. They gave a patterned way to go so that people aren't walking into each other. They closed off any interior area (some of my favorites), had sanitizing stations EVERYWHERE, and you had to have a mask on to enter.
They did a great job.
You have to be an absolute chode to not think this hasn't been politicized.Quoting transmogrifier (view post)

Yes, and you and people like you are one of the prime reasons. You revel in this shit because it allows you to get all riled up against the other side. I'd be more willing to discuss the issue with you if you weren't so obviously part of the problem and yet pretending it's all "the left".Quoting Pop Trash (view post)
EDIT: Again, there is a discussion to be had about whether the same rules for lockdown during times of peace should be abandoned or not for protests. That is a valid discussion. What I object to is the framing of it as a fucking shitfest left versus right thing. This holds true for discussions the other way. I think Trump is an incompetent moron, but I would never frame a discussion about (say) his firing of IGs as "blatant right-wing fascist power grabs" as others would, and have. I would hope I could discuss it in terms of "should a President be allowed to do that"? (For the record I have no opinion because I don't know shit about that, but it was the first topical example I could think of).
I have lost patience with discussing things with people like you who sling insults at the other side under the guise of political discussion, especially when they are doing exactly the same thing.

Who do you think would have done better? Pelosi? Biden? They wouldn't have grounded travel faster that's for sure. Cuomo? With his nursing home debacle?Quoting transmogrifier (view post)

Literally anyone with a fucking brain. But if you can't imagine anyone else being able to hold deaths below 120,000 and not turning the whole situation into a retarded political shitfight on Twitter, that's more of a failure of imagination on your part.Quoting Pop Trash (view post)
Given your immense powers of foresight though, how many deaths did Trump prevent by grounding flights from China, since that is literally the only thing you ever offer about his performance? I mean, go here, see how many countries did the same thing before or on the same day (my country was one of them) and then compare the subsequent spread of the virus within those countries. Should be interesting for you!

I feel like "this incredibly minor inconvenience to you could save others' lives" becoming a political debate is pretty much modern day America in a nutshell.
I'm trying to figure out California's issue. They had the longest lockdowns, probably the strongest left-leaning beliefs, but are showing the most cases right now. I know population is part of it, but yeesh... At least New York seemed to get a handle on things.
Florida, Texas, and Arizona just stopped trying to conserve it and now they're playing catch up.
Having the biggest homeless population doesn't help. I think there's lots of house and apartment parties happening too. CA doesn't do well with introversion.Quoting Ezee E (view post)

So Texas is re-shutting down.
AZ and FL next?
Someone needs to check on TGM.
Are California bars and restaurants still open?Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
Florida did shut down bars, but reporting that hospitalizations aren't rising since majority of the cases are people in 20s and 30s.
Newsom just ordered a bunch of counties to shut bars down today. I think restaurants can still operate w/ social distancing of tables. Most of the larger counties (Los Angeles, SF, Alameda) already have local ordinances against bars. Movie theaters are still shut down for the foreseeable future (tough luck Tenet). Kinda odd he is being less draconian than his Republican brethren in Florida and Texas, but maybe he is trying to play nice with rural CA counties who already don't like him.Quoting Ezee E (view post)
Apparently Arizona is getting screwed. So much for the virus dying out in high temperatures. If anything it seems to do better during the summer.

Old Town Scottsdale sounds like they did little to nothing in their bars and following safety guidelines. Sounds like many could get fined and threats of closure because of it.
What did Colorado do right? New Mexico shut down really early on w/ plenty complaining that it was too much. Now the governor seems like a genius.Quoting Ezee E (view post)

Colorado shut down pretty early too it seems like, especially with the ski resorts when it was learned that high altitudes are apparently a bigger threat.Quoting Pop Trash (view post)
Polis has been very heavy on the mask-wearing (he's frequently wearing one in his TV interviews), and also heavy on reopenings of places having guidelines and measurings in place. I'd say 90% of businesses have done a good job at following these measures too, at least in the Denver Metro Area.
I'm pretty happy with the way Mass has responded. I'm thinking of going to play outdoor soccer for the first time in 5 months. Am I wrong to do this?
I'm considering soccer myself. Obviously, we will be running next to complete strangers and without masks... So I'm wary myself. I may wait out one season.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
My local gyms require masks on, even during the workout and 25% capacity. While it's annoying to wear the mask during a workout, I'll deal with it.
This isn't a league but pickup with a few guys I know.
The problem is that, from what I understand so far, the surest way of contagion is person-to-person by proximity. I don't know how rough your soccer is but there's bound to be some of that.
I'm about ready to discard surfaces even if the WHO is hesitant - I haven't been spraying stuff I buy for some time now.
A little better since it's not strangers you're against, but not like you're being tested before a game like pros.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
It was 6 v 6 today. I might try and wear a mask next time but it seemed pretty casual. I dunno.
Newsom just ordered all restaurants, bars, movie theaters, casinos, etc. completely closed for at least three weeks in 19 counties (most of the state) inc. Los Angeles and the Bay Area. I think retail is ok w/ social distancing. Not sure if the August 12 Tenet thing is going to happen if it can't play in LA and NYC (among other places).
