We are finally getting the OK at my store to tell people to leave when they're in here coughing and hacking.

    STAY. HOME.

The only country that's doing "well" (along with the US) is Germany. 34K Infected, 172 deaths.
Low end estimates are 40% Americans infected, so 3% fatality rate translates into 3.6 million dead.

They say there aren't enough beds and there aren't enough ventilators. Anyone who needs life support for any reason in the next 2-6 weeks is basically fucked.

Oh thank god you're doing better, Scar.

ETM in the US we are to the point where the government wants to re open things by April. Highly unrealistic.
That's not even the scary part - I'm seeing that some people don't think that's the worst idea in the history of worst ideas.

We have the opposite here - the Serbian president is determined to "fight the disease" by building literal concentration camps for mild cases with deliberately horrible conditions, so that the people are afraid of being sent there and stay indoors. They allowed dog walking 20mins between 8 and 9PM and now he's saying it's too good for us, "walk your dog at 5AM and at 3PM, suck it up".

I HAVE A JOB, YOU LUNATIC.

Yeah, people keep forgetting that the other illnesses haven't disappeared.

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

Wow, Duke, I didn't mention this topic before because I thought it would be tasteless, but the fact that you still defend the U.S. health system with everything that's going on is... It's frankly kind of terrifying, dude.

I don't have to say a word. The data speaks for itself. Argentina- Confirmed Cases: 387 Deaths: 6, a 1.5% fatality rate.

All I mentioned above is the way the Chinese government can control the population much tighter than the US can.

Not to entirely disbelieve that its first wave may have passed, but still skeptical of China's numbers... Its "control" extends to a lot more than population as well. (A whistleblower doctor there had to die first after all before things blow up)

I don't feel sorry for Boeing. They got a tax cut from Trump and instead of putting it back into the company they used it to pump up their stock. Last I heard the GOP wants it to be 600 for average workers, not over 1k.

Oh believe me, they need to be read the riot act and taken to the woodshed (to mix metaphors) for rolling the dice on stock buybacks rather than a "rainy day" self-bailout savings fund. Stocks are great when stocks are great, but when they are bad, they are horrid. If your stock value is now at like $5 bucks and you were budgeting for your stocks being valued at millions (billions?), your company is going to be fucked. All that being said, the ripple effect of Boeing out of business could be pretty bad for all airline travel. I'm not an expert, but I'd like to hear from pilots how long global air travel could survive w/o them. Obviously, other companies make planes, but not sure if it's to the extent of Boeing. I also believe Boeing does repairs which could also ground many planes. Not to mention the jobs lost ...

Or left to fail. Thats what these capitalism worshippers believe, right? A poor business model should fail. But lots of people will lose their jobs! Yes. Because they work for a shitty company that doesn't take care of itself. The assets would be sold off and another billionaire would buy it up and need people to work. I mean, I'm no political genius (obs), but isnt that capitalism? Isn't government corporate bailouts socialism?

I mean ... do you want to be the guy that creates a domino effect of wiping out global travel? Apparently that would directly or indirectly wipe out around 500 million jobs world wide. I'm sympathetic to your view, but the ends don't justify the means and the ends would be catastrophic.

Catching up...damn Scar, glad you doing okay! The more I hear about these symptoms I wonder if I didn't have it over Christmas (is that even possible?). That was one of the worst flus I've ever had in my life. I remember sitting in the doctors office just willing myself to not pass out/faint/puke in the waiting room.

But we've been presented with no reason whatsoever to believe any bailout they get will be used for other than enriching their top people.

What are you talking about, Skitch?

Remember the Wall Street bailouts of 2008? Not a single dime of that went to people who didnt deserve it!

I'd argue some of those companies deserved to go under for poorly planned marketing products. But I'm all for saving jobs. Ford actually came out stronger from it and they didn't even need the money to begin with. They just didn't want their competitors to benefit.

Well, I decided to go pull up thirty or forty landscape bricks that had been under my Stone Hedge Style fire pit, don’t worry Bac0n, I’m just rebuilding, and I feel like I was on the incline trainer for ten minutes. Bad Scar, stay inside, be lazy.

The 2008 financial crisis occurred due to banks and investment firms doing shady, illegal things that caused the market to crash.

They they got bailouts to keep them from going under. And those bailouts helped obscenely rich people get richer.

There is no justification. They should be in jail, instead they got a bonus.

So? Yours is 1,4% with a possibility of spreading much more based on what we know about other countries, because the clown in office still favors the economy over his citizens being alive. Not that it makes me happy, mind you. One of my best friends is studying at NYU right now and that worries me.

I'm just... It's shocking and depressing that you are still against public health, but I don't want to argue on the internet about it. It will lead nowhere good.

You're talking about Wall Street and investment banks. Ford and the auto companies didn't have anything to do with bundling shady mortgages and using them for a numbers racket. They got caught up in the same systemic meltdown all of us did. These things have real world ripple effects that most definitely involve real world layoffs or hiring freezes. The university I was working at in 2009 had a total hiring freeze and budget cuts that screwed everything up for awhile. It was entirely do to investment losses from the university's funds.

I know, that's what I said in my post above to Skitch. I was talking about what happened on Wall Street.
