I do notice a pattern, though...

Young people have no problem with the masks.

Old people have no problem with the masks.

Even children are wearing the masks.

The only people being Proud Stupid (stealing that, Wryan, because it's fantastic) are white men between about 45 and 60 years of age.

amberlita - any science on this?

The only people that I've seen not wearing masks in stores are young teenagers, although I have seen older people who pull their masks down or keep moving them.

Not comprehensive of all demographics, but I think relevant enough to extrapolate its conclusions:

I hate the masks but still wear them. I was wearing them before the state mandates. They're hot, I've knocked my glasses off several times adjusting the straps and nearly stepped on them at a store, the strap broke one time at a store and I had to act like an astronaut with an air leak in his space suit and high tail it out of there to go home and get my back up mask, I've ordered them from companies that are either late or they don't come at all, the straps from one I bought are so tight they feel like my earlobes are being raped, oh and they're hot. Everybody in public looks like miserable muzzled dogs who want to commit suicide.

    No one likes them.

But not wearing one is a great way to announce to everyone that you're a shitty human being.

Eh. From my own observation, it's the 45-60 yo white men that'll boast about it more than anyone else, but there's plenty of others that don't wear it. Mostly in the lower class of all races but they aren't screaming rights issues or anything.

Thank goodness I haven't experienced a Chad or Karen claiming it's a rights issue, which is the nuttiest, most baffling thing I've heard in a while.

Yeah, I questioned someone today who pulled that.

I asked them, "what rights of yours are we infringing on by asking you to wear a mask? What are we not allowing you to do or have?"

His response was to call me a lib-tard.

The fact that that whole debate is a thing is so sad.

I'm a Disney shill so I ordered a bunch of masks that have Disney/Marvel characters on them.

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

    I want that Hulk one.

I just ordered a Star Wars one with old comic panels, and a Pink Panther one.

I haven't encountered any Karen or Chad situations yet but that's because my store doesn't require customers to wear masks. Just the employees.

I'm frustrated with non-enforcing of the rules. Masks are mandatory everywhere, but if you go in without one, you generally won't get thrown out. Distancing is not properly observed either. Basically there are rules but no one wants to enforce them.

The reason you don't get thrown out (if its anything like here) is that the front line workers are expected to enforce the rules, but get ZERO backup.

So if I tell a customer to put on a mask (which I have written instructions to do), and that customer submits a complaint about me, I am penalized.

That's bullshit. I hope you have a good manager that can hand wave that type of corporate garbage.

They're enforcing it pretty big where I am. I went to Jiffy Lube the other day for an oil change. I was still in my car talking to the guy, so no mask, and he asked me if I had a mask and that I would need one inside.

    Lol.

Not worth my time or effort.

All I want is for people to be a little more understanding and a lot more respectful to retail workers.

Yeah, essentially the same with my company, although employees won't get penalized. We just don't have the capability of handling a big scene if things happen and don't want to put employees in any danger either. We can coach/demand employees wear masks but that's about as far as it can go sadly.
