They should dump those who get sick on the cheap trips into a hole somewhere, so that they don't waste valuable resources needed for real victims.
I wouldn't fly into Europe now... but if those cheap flights are available six months from now...
Is the hole a $100/night Parisian hotel? Because I might be okay with that.
Can you deal with a 2-week quarantine when/if you get to return? Keyword being both when and if.Quoting Irish (view post)
I have a Florida trip in two weeks. I'm already planning that I won't get to see Opening Day Baseball, but hoping that's as far as it goes. Plenty of other things to do.
I already live as if in quarantine so 2 weeks would be nothing, tbh.Quoting Ezee E (view post)
(No way I'd fly now but still ... f'ing $300 round trip to Paris is like ... goddamn missed opportunity)
Where's Bacon? They just told us to WFH until further notice.

He’s in Minneapolis.
EDIT: and they just welcomed another puppy into the house, so I’m sure that’s keeping him busy.

Yeah but USA isn't testing, right? So we could have a lot more but we don't know? Thats what I heard.
I’ve been working from home for years, so no change for me.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)

Add another zero to that number next week. Exponential growth.Quoting Skitch (view post)

Instantly teared up on this news, so my morning is off to a grand start.

Testing has been a challenge. But now state and some local public health labs have the ability to test, some academic hospitals have the ability, and both LabCorps and Quest can test. This is a good thing but Scar is right - the numbers will climb.Quoting Skitch (view post)
That said, there are now 50 different governments that will decide how to use their test kits. Even within states it will be different depending on the public health authority landscape (e.g., NYS has a different approach in choosing who to test than NYC).
I have a complex immune deficiency. 75% IGA and less than 50% IGG.
For lack of better wording...am I fucked?
Colorado is going to open a drive-thru test clinic. You just have to have a note from a doc saying it's fine to be tested.

As far as I know HyVee (my company I work for) is experiencing the same shortages. Also I did have to stock some toilet paper on Tuesday although I don't know if that was virus related or not.Quoting Ezee E (view post)

I saw. Also the NBA suspended the season because poor Gobert tested positive. Excuse me I'm going to panic now.Quoting Peng (view post)

Our country hasn't officially tested very much that it’s hard to gauge how many are really infected. Today causes a stir though in which 11 people tested positive in one fell swoop; the cause was one friend came back from Hong Kong and they all instantly went out clubbing and drinking through Siam and Thonglor, sharing both glasses and smokes, which whoops. Most of us are just currently in awe at the stupidity of the whole thing lol.

I wasnt worried about this thing until the government specifically told me not to worry about it. I saw The Stand, bitches.Quoting Scar (view post)
No, of course not. You are at higher risk, but an underlying antibody deficiency doesn't change the fact that if you aren't exposed to the virus, you won't get sick with the virus. It still spreads primarily by droplet and contact. It's not going to find you like a heat-seeking missile. And it can still be killed off your hands and surfaces.Quoting megladon8 (view post)
It does mean that you need to be particularly cautious and aggressive about protecting yourself. Talk to your doctor about what you can do. Stay informed about cases in your community. Even if there are none, limit unnecessary daily movements. Use lots of hand sanitizer and wash your hands frequently. Discuss with your work supervisor if your job entails contact with lots of people, you need a contingency to be able to work remotely or maintain social distancing with coworkers and customers. If there is no avoiding an in-person meeting, avoid having it in an enclosed space, and keep a good distance from them; don't shake hands; ask them yourself if they are sick and if they are, end the meeting; do hand hygiene anyway. You can be apologetic about it, but you do need to be your own advocate, and it means you really can't trust anyone. People don't change their behavior to avoid others when they only have a mild respiratory illness. That's how any cold/flu virus spreads, and it's how COVID has mostly been spreading.
Anybody you live with needs to be likewise cautious. Not to the same extremes, but still avoiding unnecessary risks that could increase their own likelihood of getting it and then passing it on to you.
Thanks so much, amberlita.
What is your opinion on how the media is handling this?
Was listening to a radio show yesterday and they were very strong in their opinion that the media is acting disgracefully, and fueling unneeded panic.
So what are the best bulk foods to stockpile right now in the U.S. before it really hits us hard in the coming weeks? Like am I gonna have to eat rice for every meal for a month? Cause I can do it if I need to, but wondering what else I can stock. Any good ideas?
EDIT: I should mention I can't do flour/wheat/gluten products. And produce goes bad fairly quick when it's fresh. Sorta limits things.
