Newsom just ordered all restaurants, bars, movie theaters, casinos, etc. completely closed for at least three weeks in 19 counties (most of the state) inc. Los Angeles and the Bay Area. I think retail is ok w/ social distancing. Not sure if the August 12 Tenet thing is going to happen if it can't play in LA and NYC (among other places).
    There's a casino in LA/Bay Area?

My friend that lives in Reno said people from California are coming in hordes to Lake Tahoe. Could only assume the same for Vegas.

It's 19 counties total, not just LA / Bay Area. I think most of the casinos are on Indian land, so not sure how that works. I do think there is some jurisdiction for state governors even on Indian land for emergencies.

I've been to Tahoe a few times. The town is split down the middle. It's funny because you see the border since immediately across state line in the town there are huge casinos. The California side is pretty sleepy.

Obviously there's that rise in cases, but how come there's little to no discussion that the count of deaths is basically flattened? I can't find any information as far as hospitalizations go.

I find it easy to laugh at and look down on all those overweight racist white folk at Trump rallies basically rolling over for Trump and letting him scratch their belly, but this is just sad. Mental illness needs treatment. I hope she gets it.

A large number of my fellow countrymen are growing desperate because of the restrictions... and I can't say they're not right (it's stressful and people are not getting any richer) but I keep looking at the number of deaths averted in comparison to neighboring countries. I don't know, I get labeled a government zealot because I don't think it's a good idea to re-open everything right now. And I voted for this government, but I don't think I'm being irrational on this topic. There are already cities around the world that completely re-opened having trouble with COVID-19 sparks again.

Because there’s a lag on fatalities. It takes awhile.

Also I read the average age of infected has dropped to 35. They will likely spread it to older people.

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

Yeah, poor Nick Cordero lived through 91 days of hell before it killed him.

We just hit 3M total cases for 2020. We're at about 130k deaths right now. I assume we'll hit 200k deaths by the end of the summer. That's about a 6.67% mortality rate.

And my feed is full of locals claiming masks spread the disease that China released on purpose to damage our economy to make Trump look bad because they mad about tariffs. Can't make this shit up.

I'd find that theory easier to swallow if this wasn't a global pandemic. China is a problem, though. Just ask the people of Hong Kong. Oh wait you can't since they will now be arrested for wrongspeak.

So is the thinking that there's going to be a large rise in deaths in 2-3 weeks from now?

Or since the primary age at this point is more 20-30s, that majority will recover?

Well, some hospitals in Arizona and Texas are at capacity or near capacity on ICU beds. It’s best to see how the hospital rates are over the next week or two, and then worry about the fatality rates.

Even if the fatality rate is lower on the young fucks, how many of them spread it to the more high risk populations?

    CDC Hospital info

Pretty neat to look at, as this breaks down number of hospital beds taken as a whole, how many are occupied because of COVID, as well as ICU.

Arizona's close to 75% capacity, with 20% of all those beds being taken by COVID patients. Seven other states are at 70% occupied.

Five other states are between 10-15% of overall cases.

    This, maybe?

Why are COVID cases increasing while deaths are decreasing? The answer is simple. It's called Simpson's paradox and it's the result of incorrectly pooling data and arriving at a false conclusion. (twitter thread)

Yesterday law was passed here that people must wear masks in indoor public spaces, unless they have a pre-existing medical condition that makes it unsafe for them to do so.

My dad has suddenly decided he is asthmatic and can't wear one.
