Yeah, not DC Animation's finest hour. I had a reasonably entertaining time but I felt the story was directed with a rush and I was a bit disappointed by the lack of moral ambiguity, which I remembered as one of the comic's strongest aspects. It turns out I was right - I read the Millar comic book again and this was a waste of an adaptation. I think they basically chickened out of following Millar's more radical concepts, so they adapted the plot details faithfully (and those ideas are the best the movie has to offer) but they made it a more boring pro-U.S. tale of good vs. evil. In the comics Superman never kills Stalin, remaining loyal to the end while acknowledging his different moral standards, Lana Lang supports Superman and becomes a party bureaucrat, Luthor is depicted as completely unlikable where he's merely a bit eccentric and Machiavellian in the movie, and Batman's quest for revenge is a lot more justified.
Also, this was a missed opportunity to make the first bilingual DC picture by having part of it be in Russian.
