Between this and Your Name, I’m really digging these guys’ output.

I'll go with a mild yay. There are stretches that I found absolutely wonderful, and I enjoyed soaking it all in on a big screen, but too much of it feels like Diet Your Name (e.g. leaning in hard on those Radwimps songs in the second half), and it was clearly tossed together to capitalize on that previous film's success.
Giving up in 2020. Who cares.

maɬni – towards the ocean, towards the shore (Sky Hopinka) ***½
    Without Remorse (Stefano Sollima) *½
    The Marksman (Robert Lorenz) **
    Beckett (Ferdinando Cito Filomarino) *½

While it does have it's share of nods to your name. (specially the cameos from that film), I'm not sure how much it is just capitalizing on that film's success than it is Shinkai being Shinkai, since the guy does enjoy a lot exploring teen romance, unabashed outbursts of emotion, and visual cues such as shots of sunsets (with lens flare!!). And even though, it might seem familiar at times, I believe the packaging makes it a real fucking blast.

Have you seen Children Who Chase Lost Voices? That one is really good as well.

Yeah, that one is astoundingly beautiful as well, although I think it was overly ambitious in scope. Shinkai has certainly learned a lot.

EDIT: Btw, can't wait to see Weathering With You, I've been feeling nostalgic for Tokyo, as it's exactly one year since we've been there, and Shinkai's slavish attention to detail and real locations will add a completely new layer of enjoyment for me. I'm so glad we went to the stairs from Your name.

I found it on Mexican Netflix, I don't know if it's in the US's.
