$4.99/month
$4.99/month
I don't understand the value proposition. Five bucks a month and they have no hook ... just rando, expensive shows.
Most of the shows look terrible. The Momoa thing might be the dumbest premise I've ever heard. "Hey, let's make a television series that's filled Birdbox style idiocy."
Also, ffs, Joel Kinneman needs to fire his agent.
The Value is a an Apple branded product.
The end.
But there's no crossover there.
Nevermind that Apple has a history of flopping when they wander from their core strengths.
I guess it doesn't matter because they have money to burn, but still ... it's weird to see these polished ads for a service that looks anemic right from the start.
Hehe sorry Irish. I'm with you. My post was in jest.
ha, no worries.
I'm mostly sitting here scratching my head at this announcement. Their steam like gaming platform is similarly odd.
It also feels half baked. Are they also going to get other network shows on there too like Netflix? Or is it just going to be this random assortment of "original" programming.
Yeah I've been trying to find that out.
From what I understand right now, though, the answer is no. It's Apple shows only.
Their launch line-up is like ... 9 shows. (All originals? Plus Oprah. I think they needed something like Star Trek Disco or The Mandalorian to convince people to slap down the initial 5 bucks.)
Butt you do get the service free for a year if you buy an Apple device.
I have a feeling they don't plan to make money with this. This is just a perk on why you should buy iphones over anyone else. They have so much money banked as you said, they dont even care if they make money from the subscription.
The tricky part for them will be if other phones (like Samsung and whoever else makes phones and tablets today) just throw in a free year of Netflix or Disney+ when you buy a Samsung S37.
Well at least AppleTV will have the Tom Hanks led WWII Naval ship thing.

Tackling Asimov's Foundation, it appears. That'll be....tough. But it looks neat and has some good actors.

Does look neat.
Neat my ass, that looks fucking rad as hell! There hasn't been nearly enough adaptations of Asimov or Arthur C. Clarke's work. I know Morgan Freeman has been trying to get Rendezvous With Rama off the ground for years.
*cough*groper*cough**cough*ped ophile*cough*cough*cough*
oh hey guys whatre we talking about today
What? Who?
I'm trolling, mostly.
Asimov was a serial groper in a way that would get him blackballed and put on a government watchlist today. Clarke has long been rumored to have been a pedophile (like, there was a reason he lived in Sri Lanka for so many years).
I thought of it because of this recent spate of boomer-ish sci-fi ("Dune" etc) and how out of date and out of touch it seems. A couple of years ago I noticed people talking shit online about the "holy trinity" (Asimov, Clarke, Heinlein) of Golden Age sci-fi, based on their public and private lives. (I was admittedly shocked that younger generation didn't dig Heinlein at all, for instance).
Thinking about it now, it seems really weird that Hollywood is stuck on adapting dead authors and 50 year old novels when like NK Jamisin and her peers are current and wildly popular and sitting right there.
Anyway, the trailer looks good. I don't think Apple is the right fit for this tv show (or any tv show), though, and Goyer is the wrong person to adapt this work (or any work, haha).
We'll see, I guess.
I didn't know that. I would love to see an adaptation of Stranger in a Strange Land.
I love this line.Quoting Irish (view post)
Probably my most anticipated animated film of the year!

So they're finally licensing programming they didn't create. They should try that more often.
This. I guess I should be surprised that some streaming company didn't buy it up years ago.Quoting Ivan Drago (view post)
Blog!
And it's happened once again
I'll turn to a friend
Someone that understands
And sees through the master plan
But everybody's gone
And I've been here for too long
To face this on my own
Well, I guess this is growing up
