More often than not, this felt like it was trying to be two different movies, but the cinematography was awesome, Samara Weaving was flat out tremendous and the finale was gonzo bonkers and satisfying at the same time. Overall, I enjoyed it.

The "In-Laws" line was funny. I kind of guessed the actual twist midway though: [
    ]

After The Babysitter and Ready Or Not I hope Samara Weaving gets a bigger movie at some point. She rocks.

I still haven't seen The Babysitter. I'll make it a priority this horror season.

Agreed. The writers tried to add some heavy themes to what was already essentially a deeply satisfying dark comedy and it doesn't always work, mostly because they're included bluntly in the dialogue. It's still a fun movie and, like you say, it looks really great!

It's a fun movie. I saw that, Ready or Not and Mayhem (all with her) for my Horrorfest 2019 viewing. All three highly entertaining movies.

Opens with some promise, then dramatically decreases in quality of both creative set-pieces and its horror premise, and by the end I wish I've been rewatching You're Next instead. Only keepers are Samara Weaving (who near the end releases surely one of the great horror screams ever) and "Brown-haired niece. You continue to exist." 5/10
    Midnight Run (1988) - 9
    The Smiling Lieutenant (1931) - 8.5
    The Adventures of Robinhood (1938) - 8
    Sisters (1973) - 6.5
    Shin Godzilla (2016) - 7.5

Sure You're Next is better. It's better than many things.

One of my favorite moments was her tearing the dress and putting on reasonable shoes.

That part made me laugh in 2019. Now in 2020 I would probably find it more hilarious than I did last year.

I'm torn on this. I was hoping for a more gritty version of this as the movie went on, but it became clear they were going for laughs over something in the in the vein of the Hunt; humor but still grounded (relatively).

Ultimately, it plays out like Cabin in the Woods and the ending reveal is just as silly.

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

This was my problem with it, tho. The movie never commits, either in tone or action, and its disparate elements don't mix well. The black humor of accidentally killing the maids completely bounces off the idea we're meant to be afraid for Grace when she's outside the house and inside the barn.

Likewise, they were waaaaaay too coy with whether or not the curse was actually real, so their final choice felt arbitrary there, and by the time the climax rolled around, I didn't care in the least.

Yeh that's a perfect way of putting it actually.
