Man, Ciro Guerra is the director to watch right now. I haven't seen The Wind Journeys (and I'm not really a fan of vallenato, having travelled in Colombia and grown sick to my stomach of it, so there's that) but both Embrace of the Serpent and this one are flawlessly elegant, haunting epics that incorporate some welcome genre elements. This is basically a classic crime saga in the vein of The Godfather with grass dealing Indians and it's so awesome.
