    Despite its reputation and popularity, Wolf Children seems very hard to find online. There's a cool collector's edition BR but it costs $40. Today I said screw it and just bought it. Seems like a solid addition to my collection, and to this point Hosoda hasn't let me down.

    I would also like to watch Galaxy Express 999 and Tekkonkinkreet, but am having a hard time finding them. I did find a decent subbed version of Gauche the Cellist just sitting on youtube recently, so that was nice.

    I did not cry.

    What I've come to expect and love in Hosoda's films is a story detailing profound individual growth. Wolf Children did something different. It showed me a single parent making the best of it. I respect that, and feel it is a rare story to tell. But to me it didn't have the cumulative power of his other movies.

    Mmmh, good question. I haven't found many, but I thought there was some subtext in The Case of Hana & Alice (Shunji Iwai, 2015) and Liz and the Blue Bird (Naoko Yamada, 2018). Both movies are really good as well. Oh, and I guess When Marnie Was There [

    EDIT: The first two segments of Happy-Go-Lucky-Days (Takuya Satō, 2020) have more than subtext, but with different flavors. The first being fairly wholesome and the second, kinda... unsettling perhaps? The movie overall isn't great, though.
