Man, Garrone is the shit. Best Italian director currently working and that's already saying something. Disregard the quotes on that poster - this has little to do with Fellini, Rosellini or De Sica besides country of origin. It's more noir than what any of those guys did, in a very good way. I assume they just say it because the protagonist, Marcello, is probably not an actor and was chosen for his unique face, although he plays the role to perfection.
By the way, the Wikipedia page for this in English really needs some work. All it has is a long and bizarrely written plot synopsis that makes a lot of unnecessary assumptions.
