Is Hamilton on Disney+ a movie?
Yes it's a movie, but I wouldn't say it's a narrative feature. I'd say it's a documentary, along the lines of a concert film like Stop Making Sense. But, I say this only because it was intended to play in movie theaters. Otherwise it'd be a TV special.

The Academy has disqualified it because apparently in their documentary rules there's something that prohibits a straight-forward documentation of a live performance without some sort of alteration or outside element included.

I wouldn't have thought there was any consideration of any of the actors being nominated or the screenplay, etc. But I was surprised to see it disqualified from documentary (and Best Picture) consideration.

That doesn't mean it disqualifies it from the Matchies though.

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

As a documentary or something that could earn acting and writing awards? I'd argue for its consideration as a doc for sure.

It was filmed over three separate performances, one of which was without the audience, just for the closeups. So, I don't know... They do keep calling it "Hamilfilm" colloquially.

It's gonna be hard for me to separate that from Ana Lily Amirpour's film.

Hugh Jackman's ass is never to be censored, I guess.

I’ll pay to rent it. Been wanting to see it since it was announced. Pandemic time means perspective for me, and I’m alive, not spending much on gas, makeup, etc. and I still have a job. $30 ain’t too much for me.

I'm hoping this is their test bed and they'll consider doing the same for Black Widow.

Won't be a 1 time rental. Will remain on Disney+ as long as you subscribe.

But will probably end up on Disney+ eventually but i guess it's nice to know it won't be a 48 hour rental.

My folks got Disney + so I'm using their's to watch The Mandalorian. I'm on the 6th episode already after a couple of days so I like it a lot. However I feel that I am watching mostly for Baby Yoda and the gunfights.

Liked it more than any 7-9 movie though!

    I haven't seen the TROS yet. I'm a fan of 7 and 8 though.

From what I've gathered, they were well on their way to being done (or even all the way done) with their original batch of filming before the pandemic shut things down. The balance was/is being shot with small crews on those LED stages they've been using. Seems like lots of production that takes place on stages/studio lots has ramped back up in LA.
