Wow, a big disparity between the two Teams on The Nutcracker: 8th pick overall in Team A, 27th for Team B.

Seems like a probable bomb to me. The trailer only has 600,000 views on the official channel. It also looks like an even worse version of the Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland.

I had no idea it even existed until I did research for this draft. (Of course, Alice in Wonderland made a shit tonne of money.)

Nutcracker comes out a week before The Grinch, two weeks before Fantastic Beasts, and three weeks before Disney's own Ralph Breaks The Internet for a massive Thanksgiving slate. The family market is totally stacked against it, and I cannot imagine it being a priority for a kid before any of those (and even if you say Beasts, the Potter fans will make up the difference). Add to that the fact that it's a creepy-looking Christmas movie that comes out Nov. 2, so all of the marketing will be out and about heavily during Halloween time, likely only helping to emphasize the spookiness and disconnect from the holiday season.

I'd be very surprised if it makes more than $70 million domestically. Disney is due for something to underperform like Alice Through The Looking Glass, The BFG and Pete's Dragon did in 2016, and they've yet to really have one of those in a while. (A Wrinkle In Time and Christopher Robin being their least successful of this calendar year, still making $100 million and $95 million, respectively.)

It felt like a comfortable enough risk to me to take as a 6th round pick.

I weighed the Nutcracker last round and even though the name has brand appeal in the form of every Christmas ballet, I just cannot fathom what audience cares about this film--note, I don't see enough PG films to know how it's received before family fare... now let me pick a reboot of a Swedish series that no one cares about.

I've seen the Nutcracker ballet probably a dozen times. I'll probably see this given the time-frame of year.

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

It blows me away that Alita: Battle Angel has a budget around $200 million.

It blows me away they moved it from its original summer release to go head to head against both Aquaman AND Bumblebee. It's going to get slaughtered.

Yeah, it's the most August action movie imaginable and should've been released right then. I guess they were blinded by Cameron's name and went "December!"

It's going to do better than Mortal Engines.

Yeah, I felt like I had to take Mortal Engines because it was a Christmas Peter Jackson/Fran Walsh movie sitting out there with most of the big films off the board. But I don't know, man. Not sure who's dying to see a steampunk movie about mobile cities.

Since they've now both been drafted, I guess I'll say that I peg Engines and Alita to make roughly $55 and $45 million, respectively.

But they could make a killing overseas, especially if their releases don't run into the same swaths of their domestic competition abroad.
