Soooooo, this is a soccer movie. The marketing seems to be hiding this fact because ... well, it's a really weird concept. It is a movie about a clash between stone age characters and bronze age characters that is settled in a soccer game. I have no idea what they were thinking because this is just as confusing and bizarre as it sounds. There are some mildly amusing moments here and there, but at the writing level, this is something close to a disaster. Only goodwill from previous films makes any of this tolerable. If you're going in expecting all sorts of witty clay-based caveman sight gags, you're going to be pretty disappointed.

That's kind of amazing to hear. What a bizarre choice.

Yeah this was a stinker. None of the jokes land and I lived in England so I get the humor. Kermode liked it, eh.

A story concept this random should be way more dense with jokes and packed with more irreverent fun details, as in The Emperor's New Groove, instead of mostly sticking to the formulaic arc to the point of tedium at times. Some choice Aardman comedic bits and visuals (the giant duck is deservedly singled out, but I love that precise delivery bird as well) still help keep it watchable enough for me though. 6/10
