    Duke Reviews the World

So, my new job requires a lot of travel. I work for EMC as a Quality Hardware Engineer, and we are sent out on the field to customers who are experiencing problems with our products in hopes to fix the problems. We travel in every state and even internationally... (Mexico, Brazil, Canada, Ireland, etc)

My first business trip is this weekend, and I thought it would be fun to give my initial impressions of the city and my experiences, pics included/ as well as ask for suggestions on what to visit, eat, see, etc.

First up; Wilmington, DE: I'm actually flying into Philly (which I've visited before) but this is my first time spending time in Delaware that wasn't just passing through.

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

I plan on updating this thread the day of or after I return home. We are given Monday's off to re-coop when we travel on weekends... which is pretty sweet.

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’

    Very cool.

You should try to find an arcade to review in each city - that would be awesome.

I remember when X-Entertainment was awesome (a long, long time ago), and they would often review arcades and game rooms in various hotels.

I have a feeling they are much harder to find now.

If Hotels have arcades that would be cool. However in Boston, I can't think of a single arcade that isn't 30-40 minutes out of the city.

When I saw the title I was hoping for a broad evaluation of the entire country. You know, something like:
United States (Jefferson et al., 1776) **1/2
    United State of A-MEH-rica.

But this is a lot better. Looking forward to it.

True. The only quasi-arcade in recent memory--located near Stuart st. in the Theater District--closed down a few years ago. You can, however, find pinball and Galaga/Ms. PacMan in a handful of bars (although, of course, not nearly enough). And, really, is there much fun to be had in an arcade besides pinball and Galaga? I think not.
I'm writing for Slant Magazine now, so check out my list of reviews.

Hopefully I'll have the energy to update my signature soon.

You and I may disagree from time to time, but when you say things like this, it makes me feel like we're one person.

    Great thread idea, Duke.

And I'll call "thirds" on saying pinball makes arcades.
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"

    "Rick...it's a flamethrower."

Damn. When I was in Seattle a few years ago, I found two, count 'em, TWO awesome arcades.

    BTW, great idea Duke.

I think that everywhere you visit, you should order buffalo wings at one regional eatery, and then rate it according to heat and sauciness.

    This matters to me.
    ...and the milk's in me.

I left Boston in '02, but I remember this indoor amusement center with Batting Cages, mini golf and arcade games - I was there for a "charity casino night." The food was pretty good too. For the life of me I can't remember the name of the place, but it was right outside downtown.

Are you thinking of Dave and Busters? Or Strike-One?

Well, if you have a pocket full of disposable cash and can tolerate hordes of douchebags, Jillian's in Boston could be considered an arcade. Still, no pinball.

A great arcade must have a nice SFII (or greater) machine in everything-works condition.

Despite the lack of pinball, which I note every time I'm there, I really, really like it. This has more to do with the idea of mixing nostlgia and a microbrew bar with Tapper (the perfect game for Barcade) than it does the crowds.

There was a really nice arcade right down the street from my house when I first moved in 17 years ago, but it closed within the first year of living there.

It had at least 15 different pinball machines, a few fighting games, the typical Pac-Man, Galaga, etc. and I believe one or two light-gun games.

The building has changed hands a few times since. Right now it's owned by a guy who gives guitar lessons.

    "Rick...it's a flamethrower."

Dave and Buster's really needs to stop it with these racing games and get in a Street Fighter or something.
