    Doctor Sleep (Mike Flanagan)

We knew this would happen after It.

Flanagan is one of my favorites right now

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

I saw "Akiva Goldsman" and freaked, but Flanagan's rewriting the script, so bullet dodged.

I'm not interested unless they drag Danny Lloyd out of retirement.

Mike Flanagan has become what Ti West should have been.
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"

    YES!

You could also put Brad Anderson in that slot too. Or Neil Marshall.

What the fuck happened to Marshall? He seems entirely devoted to directing TV now.

EDIT: Oh, ok, he's doing the Hellboy reboot.

Uh, he's currently directing a comic book movie, pretty much the biggest movie of his career.

After Dog Soldiers and the Descent, I was just... hoping for more of the horror genre. And not a decade of TV.

He was behind on the zombie genre. I believe he had a script written with one set at an oil rig.

Someone on its production team (in another film forum I frequented) said some of The Shining's sets are created down to the exact details, and wow they weren't kidding.
    Midnight Run (1988) - 9
    The Smiling Lieutenant (1931) - 8.5
    The Adventures of Robinhood (1938) - 8
    Sisters (1973) - 6.5
    Shin Godzilla (2016) - 7.5

Came here to make this exact same post again, until I realized this was an older thread and scrolled up to see I had already made it.

Almost thought some of the clips were from the 1980 movie. Nice work to that team.

Decent trailer too. It sounds like a dumb story, but I'm intrigued in its direction.

Not sure if kidding, but some of the clips were definitely from the first movie. I'm hoping they won't be in the actual movie.

    Neat.

Cool that they are re-incorporating ideas from King’s original novel that Kubrick took out for the film (namely, that Tony, who Danny says lives in his tongue, is actually Danny from the future).

The black guy who got axed was supposed to be Danny from the future?

No. The little finger wiggle Danny did with the creepy voice was Danny from the future. In the TV miniseries Mick Garris remake (barf) it was symbolized by a different actor who was kinda like a ghost...and in the end it was revealed it was older Danny.

I am curious how they will handle the book because Hallorann survived the (book) Shining and (been a while so I cant quite remember) was either in Dr. Sleep (book) or at least talked about beyond the end of the Shining movie.

Tony, who he would talk to by wagging his finger, was supposed to be adult Danny talking to him from the future.

His full name is Daniel Anthony (Tony) Torrance.

Flanagan does supernatural horror well, better than most nowadays, but he can't stick his landings; his endings disappoint. (Which I guess makes him a natural fit to adapt Stephen King, har har har).

    Good trailer, solid cast.

I wonder if this thing will have a wide enough appeal for general audiences.

Mimicking Kubrick and directly referencing some of the most famous images in American movie history is a mistake, though. Draw the comparison and invariably "Doctor Sleep" will come out on the short end.
