Confused about stuff like Your Name. Are we counting very brief only-to-qualify-for-Oscar run, or wider release like one in NYC?
    Midnight Run (1988) - 9
    The Smiling Lieutenant (1931) - 8.5
    The Adventures of Robinhood (1938) - 8
    Sisters (1973) - 6.5
    Shin Godzilla (2016) - 7.5

With these sorts of lists, I tend to go off wide-release, not festival engagements, but that's just me. If other people have thoughts, pass 'em along.

I mean I saw it last year, but only because I live in an Asian country. I don't mind awards being US-centric (less confusion that way); I see more and more critics/critic groups relying on Mike D'Angelo's NYC list for qualification and I think that's a good idea.

This is a good idea but it will exclude certain Netflix films. ("Gerald's Game" wasn't released theatrically, for instance.)

Oh yeah, D'Angelo said earlier this year a day will come when he has to figure out what to do with streaming services for qualification stuff, but not this year for him. I'm thinking maybe that list for theatrical ones, and then finding a list of films released this year for streaming services?

I mean I saw it last year, but only because I live in an Asian country. I don't mind awards being US-centric (less confusion that way); I see more and more critics/critic groups relying on Mike D'Angelo's NYC list for qualification and I think that's a good idea.
    Quote Quoting Irish (view post)
This is a good idea but it will exclude certain Netflix films. ("Gerald's Game" wasn't released theatrically, for instance.)
UPDATE: Since then it seems like a lot more people and critic groups have depended on and asked about this list, so D'Angelo has included films that will be released in theater to the end of the year, as well as titles that are Netflix-only and Mubi-only. So this seems like a pretty good list to reference to (though in his disclaimer he said "Don't know of a quick-'n'-easy resource for other streaming services" so suggestions for more streaming service lists can still be welcome).
    Midnight Run (1988) - 9
    The Smiling Lieutenant (1931) - 8.5
    The Adventures of Robinhood (1938) - 8
    Sisters (1973) - 6.5
    Shin Godzilla (2016) - 7.5

Since we're probably about 2 months away from these getting tallied by someone, it's probably safe to just edit your original post.
