Love the signing and I love these three year deals.
Love the signing and I love these three year deals.
The Dodgers obviously gave Greinke a bunch of money to be their #2 starter, 6/$147m. They also spent over $60m on Ryu when he could legitimately not make their starting rotation. Their payroll is now a record $230m.
Also, the Rays fleeced the Royals by trading James Shields and Wade Davis for either the #1 or #2 best prospect in baseball (depending on what you think of Profar) in Wil Myers and a couple others.
Reds closing on a deal for Choo, sending back the black hole of suck known as Drew Stubbs and SS prospect Didi Gregorius.
Fills a pretty massive hole at the top of the lineup for a year but it's unlikely they'd retain him past that since he's a FA and they have Billy Hamilton in-waiting. Also, playing him in CF could be a bit suspect defensively.
I'm not sold on Choo, at least in center. Reds won on pitching and defense last year. I can see Choo supplying more runs than Stubbs, but also costing a lot more as well.
Youkilis is a Yankee
Nice cover at third for A-Rod, I guess.
Youk isn't what he used to be. He won't have an OBP above .400 or even walk 150+ times next year.
The Reds had terrible OBP guys hitting at the top of the lineup all year. Choo is a great leadoff hitter. Only downside to this I see is that it's a likely 1 year rental. His offense in front of Votto/Bruce will more than make up for any defensive shortcomings, especially since GAB lessens the importance of range.Quoting Gizmo (view post)
@JeffPassan
Indians get: Bauer, Stubbs, Shaw, Albers
D-backs get: Gregorius, Sipp, Lars Anderson
Reds get: Choo, Donald.
Whoa.
Terrible deal for the Diamondbacks.
Only a handful of guys in baseball history have had 150 walks in a season.
I remember when he was starting for my fantasy team. Now he's just an afterthought.Quoting Kurosawa Fan (view post)
I'm not sure what to think of most of the deals that have happened over the past week or so. I don't know about the Dodgers paying Zack Greinke 147 million for 6 years since Clayton Kershaw is the actual ace of that team, although granted that move means all the Dodgers have to do is keep the rest of that staff intact since now they have a great 1-2 punch at the top of the rotation.

Arte Moreno getting frisky again. Looks like they're pressing hard for Josh Hamilton.
Done deal. 5/125.Quoting shaun (view post)
Now watch Bourjos/Trumbo plus someone to the Mets for Dickey.
Trumbo isn't being traded per Buster Olney, and if the Mets traded Dickey for a Peter Bourjos centerpiece deal they deserve every fan revolt they get.
Also, the Red Sox signed Dempster to a 2/$26.5m deal.
Why? I wish him the best, although I thought he ended up fitting in pretty well with the Rangers last season.Quoting shaun (view post)

So it looked like Anibal Sanchez to the Cubs for 5/$75m was a done deal and then the Tigers jumped back in and brought him back for 5/$80m.
I like Sanchez so I can't poopoo the money. He's a good #2-3 starter.
e: He is a pretty big injury risk but that's about it.
He settled in nicely last season, but the years/money worry me. I know Illitch is trying to win now, but I'd rather they not kill the team in the future on the off chance they can pull off a WS win. Also, nothing is being done about the bullpen, which was the biggest problem last year.
Fuck. I was hoping the Cubs could pull it off. Oh well time for them to activate their secondary plans and go with lesser pitchers they can at least acquire....Quoting shaun (view post)

D'Arnaud for Dickey appears to be official. Pretty good return for a 38 year old knuckleballer.
No way Dickey has another Cy Young caliber season either.
Short of getting Will Myers, it's the best return they could have gotten. Syndergaard is very high ceiling pitching prospect as well.
Sox have a new SS. Let's try it with the second Drew brother.
Are the Rangers purging their entire team?
Manager vs. Ump
Pretty fun read, particularly the Joe Madden bit.
Stephen Drew, hmm. So a .250 hitter (if that) with little to no speed or power. I don't see RS Nation loving that move, but at least only a one-year deal.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
