I wanna start linking some of the interesting post-Weinstein writings I've been reading in this thread. I'll start with these two for now:

    - How Film Schools Lead to Pipelines Full of Weinsteins

    - Sex Workers Are Not A Life Hack for 'Helping' Sexual Predators

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’

Thanks for posting the article about Lasseter, 8. I hadn’t read that.

I had only ever read until then about him being huggy. Which I maintain would be an absurd reason to tear someone down.

But yeah, if Lasseter is that much of a fucking creep, let him burn.
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"

No way. Demand a book report. Grade it.

They articulate through the words of women with experience in those fields the gut feelings I've had about those subjects that I didn't feel equipped to say myself.

Hmmmmm! That's interesting --- I need to think more about this. There's a lot of issues in those articles (and others like them that I've seen) that rankle me.

(In the meantime, I regret to inform you that Wisdom of the Crowds has been cancelled.)

No doubt, but I tend to read first-person essays/blogposts on social failings more to get a sense of the needs and frustrations of those who feel them, especially when I have little first-hand involvement or certain blindspots (I graduated from film school and thinking back, there were less women in my final year than in my freshman year, and yet this was something I never saw any significance of back then), so at the very least I think these are perspectives worth taking in and thinking about. Hence my interest in them.

    - How Film Schools Lead to Pipelines Full of Weinsteins
"My analysis of course enrollment data and interviews with female film students suggest that, by their second year, many decide either to drop out of production programs to pursue different majors, or to refocus their film training via courses in trades like editing that are less male-dominated and less governed by masculinist ideals of artists."

Patton Oswalt has a good bit about how movies are directed by men but edited by women. Ironically intended or not, it's mostly done in the context of men's inescapable need to jizz out content that women end up having to clean up.
"How is education supposed to make me feel smarter? Besides, every time I learn something new, it pushes some old stuff out of my brain. Remember when I took that home wine-making course and forgot how to drive?"

I dont believe Spacey or Louis's careers are over,. They'll be back. And in greater numbers.
    But are they easily startled?

Where is the actual DATA in that article? I read the first few paragraphs and it talks about the dropout, but I think that goes for the major as a whole.

The only data is in the actual job section, and that's in cinematography/direction only.

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

Looks like Garrison Keilor is the latest shoe to drop. Not surprising, as I would run into him on occasion when I lived in the same neighborhood, and every interaction was unpleasant.

Details about the allegations against Lauer are out. He's also part of the "pulling out his dick to women at work" crowd. Did these guys have a FB group?

    http://variety.com/2017/biz/news/mat...en-1202625959/

This quote, I think, deserves to be highlighted:

“There were a lot of consensual relationships, but that’s still a problem because of the power he held. He couldn’t sleep around town with celebrities or on the road with random people, because he’s Matt Lauer and he’s married. So he’d have to do it within his stable, where he exerted power, and he knew people wouldn’t ever complain.”

As the co-host of NBC’s ‘Today,’ Matt Lauer once gave a colleague a sex toy as a present. It included an explicit note about how he wanted to use it on her, which left her mortified. On another day, he summoned a different female employee to his office, and then dropped his pants, showing her his penis. After the employee declined to do anything, visibly shaken, he reprimanded her for not engaging in a sexual act. He would sometimes quiz female producers about who they’d slept with, offering to trade names. And he loved to engage in a crass quiz game with men and women in the office: ‘fuck, marry, or kill,’ in which he would identify the female co-hosts that he’d most like to sleep with.
“[Matt Lauer] had a button under his desk that allowed him to lock his door from the inside without getting up.”
Two sources recounted Lasseter’s obsession with the young character actresses portraying Disney’s Fairies, a product line built around Tinker Bell. At the animator’s insistence, Disney flew the women to a New York event. One Pixar employee became the designated escort as Lasseter took the young women out drinking one night, and to a party the following evening. “He was inappropriate with the fairies,” said the former Pixar executive, referring to physical contact that included long hugs. “We had to have someone make sure he wasn’t alone with them.”
    These people sound psychotic.

Did you misquote? The button thing was Lauer, not Zimmerman.

Good catch, 8. I cribbed from Movie City News and misread the page. (Zimmerman was also recently fired for "inappropriate conduct.")

Are we to believe Lauer is handy enough to install such a device? Because if not, then whoever allowed such a thing needs to be in trouble too.
